COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Bottle. A clear medium brown beer, with a small, frothy, almost fully diminishing off-white head. The aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/nuts, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of toffee and some dried fruits. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, average carbonation, long finish with moderate bitterness, lightly alcoholic. A beautiful color that it’s not matched by a minimal and disappearing head. Mild aroma, but pleasant. The mouth experience is better, thanks to a quite good harmony. It is on the sweet side but it doesn’t exceed. It’s more enjoyable to drink than to smell.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, copper to brown colour with a short and slightly tanned foamy head. Moderately toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, nuts and a tinge of chocolate, accompanied by herbal hops. Mildly bitter and delicately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry-ish and mildly bready toast-malty taste with hints of toffee, traces of chocolate and herbal hoppy spice in the background; toasty and hop bitter finish with a mildly malty sweetness and notes of chocolate in the aftertaste. 01.IX.14

Bottle. Pours a deep red-brown with a high, fine-grained, soft cream-colored head with lace. Lots of visible carbonation. Nose is smoke, soy sauce, sage, rosemary, toast, and oak. Really nice baking chocolate up front, followed by savory notes and a whisky or dark rum-like smokiness. Lots of substance to it; not at all shallow or thin. Finish is long with a touch of toffee sweetness. I like this style when done well, and this is definitely done very, very well.

Has a dark brown color, darker than most oktoberfest beers. This is not an ipa, but it has a bitter finish like one. Tasted on 10\18\2013

Pours an iced tea color with a thin white head. Aroma is a tad malty with a bit of coffee and smoke. Taste is a bit of roasted malt, smoke, and a hint of coffee bitterness. This is a decent brown ale.
