COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the “American Brown Ale” style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.
Old Brown Dog has been around for many years. It was first brewed in 1988 at the Northampton Brewery. In 1989 it won a silver medal in its category (American Brown Ale) at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. It has since been retired from competition but enjoys love and respect from people all over the world.

Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 24.01.15. Muddy brown. Small, pale brown head. Not much lacing. Some aroma of brittle, dark caramel and dark malt. Similar taste, with hints of unfermented wort. Low bitterness, but high drinkakability.

Sweet Chocolate and nut flavor on the aroma. Hop aroma is low. Appearance is a hazy brown with an off white head. Flavor has notes of toasted bread with a medium bitterness from the hops. Mouthfeel is medium with a medium level of carbonation. Overall, it's a good tasting sessionable beer. Personally, I would prefer more hop flavor and aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is a mild nut with a hint of malt. Body is a clear ruby brown topped with a frothy two finger head. Rich caramel and mild roasted malt taste. Clean medium bodied beer. Drinkable and enjoyable.

Pours up brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is malts, caramel and light floral. Taste is medium sweet with a long malty, caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is slightly oily, soft carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking.

Aroma is malty and dark bready with some dark dried fruits for good measure. Taste is the same as the aroma really, but with some sweet and moist forest sensations adding to my already existing aversion against the style. So... it is as good as it can get for a brown ale. It’s nicely crafted though.

Nice aroma of bitter chocolate, some fresh bread and a hint of raisin. Nice brown color, with a tan head. Sweet malt up front. Chocolate, toasted almond, and some dark fruit initially. Bitterness is brief but cuts sweetness nicely. Somewhat watery mouth feel on the finish. Well balanced. Not bad.
