Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Tap: My first from this brewery. Very nice, though not amazing. I enjoyed the stronger hops flavors, but felt that the carbonation was just a bit more than needed.

One of my favorite from the Portsmouth Brewery, I usually order this when I go to the Jimmy LaPanza room. Dark caramel color with not much head when poured from the bottle. Goes down fairly easy. I’d recommend stopping by to try one if you are in Portsmouth.

Had a bottle of this with Argo at RFD in D.C. Expected a lot more. Aroma has a slight smokiness to it. Has a slight dirt taste to it. Dark copper colored appearance. Light, off white head. Flavor has a bit of nuttiness to it, bit that is about it. Thin mouthfeel. The dog on the label is nice....

Nice toasty aroma w. some hops. Very nutty, slightly sour, brown malt and a slightly floral hop finish.

Large light tan head, medium retention and lacing. Lightly hazy brown ale with a red hue. Lightly malty, smokey nose. Med/light body. Medium dry malt flavors with hints of chocolate, fruit and caramel malts. Finish is medium sweet. Couple more hop flowers would of been interesting.

Aroma of caramel, coffee, some chocolate, and malt. Looks good--lasting off-white head with lacing down the glass; dark, dull brown color when held to a light. Flavor is sweet and of malt, caramel, and coffee. Bordering on porter flavor, but it could be a little thicker. Overall, this is a solid beer that is tasty and quite drinkable.

Caramel coloured beer with a caramel and vanilla nose, with light floral hops. Good malts with nutty roasted finish, sweet aftertaste which blends with the bitterness very well. Round mouthfeel, with an interesting powdery body. mmmm...

Well besides my beers having no heads lately... I like this one... Alot. Its got a great aroma with a fine fine fine flavor. Rich tasting with hints of chocolate and liquor, and some hints of caramel? Overall a brew I'd buy again in a sixer, kick back and watch a game to.

Good sized head of light tan creamy bubbles. Lasts for a while also. Nutty, roasted grain aroma. Nice dark amber in color. Nice well rounded flavor. Nothing really stands out but just very satifing. Light to medium body with some more hints of roasted grains and some malt. Finish is clean and smooth. Slightly dry and toasted. A top quality brown ale, very easy drinking and well worth the time.
