Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

I love this beer; itís probably my favorite beer classified on RateBeer as a brown ale. Itís moderately hoppy without being overwhelming, and it seems to achieve a balance that Iíd like...relatively dry for a brown ale, not as much as some stouts but enough that itís refreshing. Seems pretty complex too. I became a huge fan of this beer when I live in CT and it was pretty widely available; here in PA I drink it less only because itís less available. Itís described as full-bodied but to me, in spite of its high ABV, this beer has a certain lightness to it, perhaps because itís a little less sweet.

Clear, brown color. Thin , off-white head. Aroma of bread and caramel malt . Same notes in taste , moderate malty sweetness . Seems like nothing special, but everything is in perfect proportion in the taste. I really enjoyed it.

on tap. marrone, velata, schiuma beige fine non molto persistente. aroma tostato, quasi bruciacchiato. caramello, malto, melassa e frutta secca. Gusto abboccato, dolciastro e tostato allo stesso tempo. Di nuovo frutta secca (nocciola). finale erbaceo luppolato. corposa, rotonda, piena, poco carbonata. equilibrata ed armonica. un filo troppo luppolata per lo stile.

Cask at gbbf 2015 day 4. Nice reddy amber coloured pour with a fading loose greyish head. Aroma is dry candied ginger, spicy wood, bit odd. Some pine needle hop on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of nutty grains, faint toasted bread, wood, some stale malts, ginger. Palate is light, semi sweet, lowish carbonation. OK, maybe not in great condition

Regular long neck 12oz bottle. Nice 1/3 colar foam but disappear very quickly. It tastes very easy ale, not been too bitter.
