Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the “American Brown Ale” style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.
Old Brown Dog has been around for many years. It was first brewed in 1988 at the Northampton Brewery. In 1989 it won a silver medal in its category (American Brown Ale) at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. It has since been retired from competition but enjoys love and respect from people all over the world.

Full bodied, quite a bit of hops and a nice bit of malt going on. Strong fizz, alcohol is a bit more apparent here than in some other browns. Still a good one though.

Vom Fass im STRONGBOWs Kiel. 0,3/4,50€. Solide.

Marrón caoba, tinte rojizo y de escasa espuma. Aroma poco marcado, malteado. En boca tiene paso facil, buen punto de gas, punzante. Cuerpo moderado. Equilibrada, de predominio dulce malteado en la base y notable contrapunto lupulado, seco, especiado, y ligeramente ácido frutal, de frutas rojas.

Tap poured at Portsmouth Brewpub with Crayola girl. Pint glass. Color is a cola brown with minimal head. Almost looks like it might be flat. Nose has roasted malt and caramel characteristics. Mild. Taste doesn’t surprise you bringing the same malty, caramel qualities and feels pretty subdued. Slight malty sweetness. No real hint of bitterness. This feels really average.

Bottle. Pours clear, dark brown, with a two-finger, creamy, beige, lasting head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of resin and pine. Light to medium body, lightly sour, leaves a sticky sweetness in my mouth, a bit too much carbo, a light caramel taste and a light bitter and sour finish.

On tap the beer pours a dark brown color with a medium head. The aroma is roasted malts, licorice and some caramel. Taste has more roasted malts, raisins and some herbs. Short finish.

Sample at hayseed. Pours brown with a khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Solid caramel on the nose. A bit sweet on the tongue normally but it does cut the spice of this jambalaya nicely. Finished clean. Solid beer though I like my brown ales to be nuttier ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong caramel malt in the nose with slight hoppy fruit at the end. Pours dark golden with brief foam. Medium body and slightly slippery mouthfeel. Caramel dominates the taste with a little biscuit and slight hoppiness. Moderately sweet finish. A good, mild brown ale.
