walter (357), Staunton, Virginia, USA Dec 21, 2007 Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Medium brown color with tan head. Nose of lightly toasted malt, caramel and brown sugar, peanuts, and some faint spiciness. Flavor is malt-forward, though with enough hops to balance out the sweetness. Some spices come through in the finish-- pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, etc. Not really my thing, but well made, and an easy drinker, and I’ll always support the Smutty.
heynik1885 (9), tonawanda, New York, USA does not count Aug 22, 2008 not a bad brown ale, small head, strong but not to strong, some carmel notes pretty good urnamesucks (92), New York City, New York, USA Aug 20, 2008 Rich and brown in color. I tasted the caramel flavor with hints of other subtle flavors. ElGaucho56 (376), USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours more of a lighter beige than a true brown ale, with a small white cap. Not too much in the nose, some typical earthy british aroma hops, some biscuity malt. More of the same on the palate with a slightly thin body, finishing vaguely chocolatey. Not my cup of tea. Underhook (96), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Aug 16, 2008 Nice brown ale here. Pours with a ginger aroma and a rich brown appearance. Tastes a bit ginger, roasted caramel, toffee. Baumgartner (66), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle poured to glass. Pours dark brown with a rich tan head. A sweet aroma woth smooth roasted malts and soft hop citrisyness. A calm roasted flavor with a pleasent soft bitter afterstaste. Creamy mouth feedl on the sidese of the tounge. A nice brown ale with fairly good lacing the lenght of the glass.
