Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the “American Brown Ale” style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.
Old Brown Dog has been around for many years. It was first brewed in 1988 at the Northampton Brewery. In 1989 it won a silver medal in its category (American Brown Ale) at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. It has since been retired from competition but enjoys love and respect from people all over the world.

Fad. Fantastisk at får to amerikanske ratings i Seoul på en tilfældig pub i Itaewon. Bedste kvarter i Seoul for øl by far. Man kan tydeligt mærke den amerikanske indflydelse. Brun lys let brændt og sødlig. Fin øl.

Aroma - roast malt Appearance - the body is mahogany, with a little fine particles. The head is around 1/2" and settles into thin layer of film. Taste - has roasted malt, some mild nuttiness, and a little sweetness overall. Palate - medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a slight tannic finish.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper-hued brown body with a tiny off-white head. Nose is almond essence, nuts, cola nut and hints of brown bread, caramel and deep malts. Taste is caramel, burnt sugar, almond essence and hints of chocolate, cola nut and grains. Medium body and carbonation. Fair enough, but it tastes kinda stale somehow.

I had rather high hopes for this. I love a good brown ale, the unsung hero of craft beer, I wish I could find good ones more often. Now this being a Smuttynose beer, I assumed great things. But I really don’t think this lived up to its potential. Slight coffee or nut smell, it didn’t deliver all that much in the ways of taste. At 6.5 ABV I would have thought so, but there was a very watery flavour obscuring what else was here, a subdued flavour of nuts, toffee, preserved prunes and day old coffee. Had that watery flavour not been there, I’m quite sure I would have been far more pleased.

Tap at a pizza place. Pours hazy brown with white head. Aroma of caramel, orange and flowers. Tastes of sweet malts followed by a crisp orange aftertaste. Very sweet and and goes down smooth. A good brown ale
