Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Nut, roast, peat, and a little pipe tobacco in the aroma. Flavor is nutty and spicy, with a very bitter finish. Nice.

12 oz bottle pours a brown color with a small white head. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel, light hops. Medium bodied, very smooth.

Tap at Beer Hunters. Deep copper color, good off-white creamy head. Caramel and herbal grassyness in the nose. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Caramel, some earthy hoppyness. Some alcohol. A bit odd cellary notes.

(Keg at Kaisla, 20141222) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had caramel, molasses and something metallic. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, grass, caramel and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A harsher brew that I would like a brown ale to be.

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Clear amber brown with a beige rim head, stripes of lace. Taste is solid malt with a backbone of floral hops. Carbonation on the swallow, then both sides move 50-50 to a finish that first blooms, then rapidly dies out. A pretty solid brew.

Super malty brown ale. No roasted malt it but flavor in this one. This tastes like a poorly made pale ale. Pours copper in color with a thick tan head. Had a bottle pour at home ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep copper with small, fast-disappearing head. Smells of malt with a slight metallic tinge. This comes through in the taste which seems a little mineral-ey, but well-balanced with notes of caramel - not too sweet though. Great body makes it very smooth and drinkable.

Cask at GBBF 2012. Poured a murky, dark brown, with a halo of off white head. Aroma of malt, toffee and roasted nuts. Sweet flavours of caramel, chewy grain and brown sugar. Finish was bready malt, light hop bitterness and cake.

Nice brown color and creamy head. Has a nutty, toffee malt aroma. Nice roasted malt flavor, toffee, caramel, chocolate flavor with nice offsetting hop bitterness. Medium body, good carbonation. Very nice brown ale.

Solid brown ale. Slightly better than Sweet Josie. Pours a somewhat hazy brown with reddish hues and decent tan head. Definitely malty and biscuity on the front with some hops in the finish. Decent mouthfeel- medium to heavy and somewhat slick. Good for the style. Not overly carbonated- key to a successful brown so one is not reminded of cola. Solid beer for a style that I tend to avoid.
