Dacrza (140), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Apr 14, 2008 Fourth of the Smuttynose winter sampler--and a while since I’ve had a true lager! Full white head that settles to uneven cirrus clouds on an effervescent orange body...has a strong look about it... light malts... the nostril presence is balanced and a bit fruity--pleasant...soft presence...not active but relaxed and drinkable in a positive way... a bit crunchy in the teeth, but only when chewed... malt is obvious... esther lays soft on the back of the mouth--flirts like a pilsner but holds with a lager backbone... hops are slight but noticeable...as lagers go, pleasant and easy--medium-bodied but probably a good beer for a six-pack evening...
phishpond417 (1231), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours a clear amber colour with a tint of orange. Thin white head, that is only temporarily visible. It quickly leaves behind a small creamy top. Aroma is malty, slight pear and a bit nutty. Mouthfeel is very full, flavors are semi sweet and nutty as well. Finishes very smooth, but light and refreshing. Very clear in taste. acrdz (4228), Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2008 12oz bottle. Nose is semi-sweet honey malts and semi-sharp wheat. A full bodied palate and a medium sweet flavor of pure cracked barley and clean wheat bread is refreshing, vibrant and pure in flavor. A light note of resinous corn hints at marzen, while the lighter wheat germ and saltine cracker notes signal pils. All in all it’s actually really tasty. JohnQPublic (131), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 22, 2008 Updated: Jul 23, 2008Draught. Pours dark gold, medium white head with good lacing. Aroma is toasty, maybe a bit of breadcrust in the nose. Taste is toasty, slightly biscuity malt, with a slightly floral hoppy note and a lingering, very delicate, clean bitterness on the finish. Body is light but not watery, with moderate carbonation. Great, very drinkable lager. SQNfan (410), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jun 30, 2008 On tap at the brewpub during the KtG release: Like the rest of the beers in the lineup that day this was a really well-make and balanced beer. colemgm8 (357), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jun 25, 2008 bottle. really nice lager.... pours a deep golden with little head. a bit of bread in the aroma... nice full body for a lager. very even over the palate, with the hops coming forward from the back of the palate through the finish. wonderfully balanced between hops and malts.... very clean and crisp. definitely one of the best lagers I’ve had to date....
