Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a thick foamy light tan head that leaves nice lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma mostly of pumpkin spices (lots of nutmeg with a pinch of cinnamon) and faint pumpkin. Flavor is still more spice than actual pumpkin with a bitter finish. Palate is slightly weak and watery. This is a decent beer but it lags behind many other pumpkin ales. klavoie22 (16), Newmarket, New Hampshire, USA

Cooked vegetables and a bit of spice in the nose. A bit of bitterness and saltiness in the finish. Low carbonation. Nothing great, but not terrible either. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Had at the brewery, they were bottling it and a couple of bottles got pulled off the line just before capping. Poured a hazy yellow with a beige head. Aroma was of cloves and cinnamon with a hint of nutmeg. Flavor was a mild pumpkin a good malt backbone and a hop bitterness in the finish. oh6gdx (8838), Vasa, Finland
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Cask@GBBF2008 (my notes said ABV 5.1%). Slightly hazy yellowish orange colour, with small white head. Nice lace. Aroma is spices, some fruits and pumpkin pie. Flavour is very much the same, more spicy than of pumpkin though. Nothing that exciting. RunDWP (203), San Jose, California, USA

Couldn’t really detect much of an aroma, and I certainly didn’t detect any pumpkin in it. Nice lacing on the glass. Taste for me was a bit muddled, heavy, with malt and some sourness. Couldn’t really taste much pumpkin! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Smuttynose, so I think I’ll try something else from them. Arayaga2 (949), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

It smelled like pumpkin and spices. The taste is where it looses me. I normally like a good pumpkin ale but this tastes like you were eating dried spices - literally. It felt like I had herbs and spices in my mouth that I was chewing. maybe I had a bad one? I’’ll have to go back to this.
