Commercial Description:
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions." In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

Pumpkin Coloring with White Head. Pumpkin and Spice Aroma...Malt Hoisting Up Seasonal Flavors. The Same in the Flavor...Nice Clean Pumpkin Flavor, Although Not Very Pronounced..and Light Spices. Great Amount of Spices...Subtle and Smooth. Lightly Dry Ending. Very Nice Easy Drinking Pumpkin Beer. Cheers!

Pours orange with a rocky off-white head. The aroma is very spicy, mainly nutmeg and cloves. There is some pumpkin in there as well. Medium body with some subdued sharp carbonation. Flavor starts with some pumpkin veggie taste and s a bit of spice, but not as much as the aroma. There is some amber ale style malt in the back. The finish is a littel spicy from the hops and somewhat astringent. An okay pumpkin ale.

Bottled. Hazy medium amber with a short layer of off-white headage. Nose was spicy (nutmeg, clove, and coriander) with airy, dried floral hops. Spicy as well in the flavor department, with little pumpkin noted... moderate bitterness. Unpleasantly metallic on the palate with tart, wheaty notes toward the finish.. not much in terms of body either. Not toward the top of my list for pumpkin beers.

Pours slightly cloudy amber/orange with a large head and good lacing. Smells of orange, malt, pumpkin pie spices, yeast and cardamom. Not as much pumpkin pie spices as many others. Maybe some coriander in there, too. Kind of reminds me of a pumpkin/wit brew. It’s got a little tartness in there somewhere. Pretty damn original.

Poured a clouded rusty orange with just a thin white head. Big time spicy/nutmeg aroma, except it almost has a twist of lemon it it. The flavor parallels ... almost citrusy lemon-lime-iness at first, and then the undertow of pumpkin.

Tap- I was helping them blow this keg out. Light orange color. Not much head on this one. Hints of cinnamon, honey, cloves, and brown sugar spices. Starts off a bit sweet and has a dry finish to it. I also had a secon one with some cinnamon sugar around the rim. Great holiday beer.

Cloudy amber. Smell of flowers, pumpkin, ginger, clove, hops and sometimes laundry detergent. Taste of pumpkin, cinnamon and a very heavy tart bitterness at the end. It smelled a lot better than it tastes but still one on the good pumpkin beers out there.

bottle-pours peach/orange with a sudsy white head around the rim of the glass. big spicy nose with notes of opened pumpkin, veggie, and cinnamon. nice nose! comples flavors for the style-afformentioned spices, pumpkin, other cooked veggies, light grainy malts and some earthy hop notes with a touch of shoveled earth. pretty complex as most smuttynose beers tend to be. body is nice and crisp. definately a pumpkin i could drink alot of. smuttynose has not dissapointed me yet!
