beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Oct 14, 2006 12 oz bottle-Pours a nice cloudy orange color w/a moderate foamy head. Has a distinctive spiced aroma. Good looking beer, good smelling beer, not a good tasting beer, at least not to me. Does have a distinctive Pumpkin flavor which I didn’t find very enjoyable. Crisp & clean w/a lot of carbination, but just found it to be a very odd flavor combination. Sharp pumpkin flavored hops?? Not a lot of balance, seemed to have a soapy or medicinal aftertaste, would be better if it had some kind of sweet or bitter finish. This was my first Pumpkin Ale, wanted to keep an open mind @ it & try one, this will likely be my last. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Oct 12, 2006 looks nice with a nice head, spicy aroma, same overly heavy spicy taste, a bit bitter, a decent brew i just think these pumkin beers have a bit to much spice in the flavor jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Oct 12, 2006 From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with a best before date along the left side of the label, Jan/07.
Poured a hazy pumpkin orangey golden with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, small amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of pie spices, pumpkin flesh and a light sweet maltiness.
Good carbonation and a malty crisp, smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Tastes of pie spices and pumpkin, not pie filling-like, but raw pumpkin, a nice earthy sweet maltiness and a dryish spicy, malty finish.
A really nice pumpkin ale, one of the better ones I’ve had this fall.
chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Oct 12, 2006 Well done. Clean, crisp with solid pumpkin flavor. Spices are not overdone. I would prefer a bit more hops. Not as good as dfh pa but not as expensive either. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Oct 12, 2006 (Bottle (best before 12/06) from Glen Beverage (NH)) Full of pumpkin-pie spiciness...Pours rather hazy yellowish amber with about 2 fingers of biscuit head. Aroma fairly spicy - nutmeg and other pumpkin pie spice. Sloppy, webby lacing. Mouthfeel fairly smooth, a bit prickly on back end. Tastes more of the spice than of pumpkin, although there is some pumpkin in there. Pretty decent fall treat. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Oct 8, 2006 Best by 01/07. The beer pours to a lightly glowing copper body with a creamy white head. Nice lacing, even in a shaker. The aroma is nicely full of pumpkin flesh and light spices with cinnamon and nutmeg. The flavor is very malty. Like roasted pumpkin flesh with allspice. Extremely spiced. Malty palate. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2006 12oz bottle. Orange, with off white head. Allspice and nutmeg aroma. Malty up front, pumpkin and hops become evident later. Dry finish. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 4, 2006 Bottle. Pours amber with a white head, and lively carbonation. Very assertive aroma of pumpkin spices..nutmeg and cinnamon. Flavor is pretty much the same, but there is a british pale ale maltiness hiding behind those spices. Spicy hop finish, with some grassiness and cinnamon bite. Pretty darn solid. I enjoyed this more than the DFH Punkin. Yet another good beer from Smuttynose.
