Commercial Description:
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions." In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

Pours amber with a small white head. Smells like burned pumpkin pie. Tastes the same. Cigarette ashes and thanksgiving dinner at grandma’s house. Not my kind of thing.

Pours an effervescent amber with a small fizzy white head. Aroma of some hops and ginger. Flavor profile is surprisingly bland... some dry hops, cooked vegetables, perhaps the slightest hint of cinnamon and/or nutmeg... nut much spiciness to this at all. Metallic finish. Perhaps too much hop character, as I’m having trouble tasting anything else.

Surprisingly good, can’t wait to have another with a nice slice of pumpkin pie. Very strong spice smell, great creamy pumpkin flavor.

Pours a light hazy orange with little head. Aroma of sweet pumpkin pie, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices. Flavor is hoppy, maybe too much, with some pumpkin notes and lots of cinnamon. Finishes sour and tart. Could have been better.

Thanks to dirtymike. Bottle. Pours a lush golden amber. Aroma is a nice pumpkin pie. Flavor is mostly citrus, with a pumpkin/cinammon finish. Very hoppy, much more than I expected. Great fall beer.
