2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy orange color. The head is a rather typical barely off-white shade about one finger high. Great lacing is left behind, but retention isnít the best.
S: As expected, the spices are there. The spice component is low on sweetness, but high on nutmeg. I also pick up a bit of citrus peel, which adds a nice component to the (well restrained) spiciness.
T: Bitter citrus peel notes hit my tongue first. The spice notes, rather than immediately opening the flavor profile, sneak up near the finish to mingle with the citrusy flavor. Not much in the way of actual pumpkin (Iíve come to expect that now from the style). Thereís even a mineral touch in the aftertaste. All the main flavors seem to exacerbate each others harshness - but at least itís bland enough where itís not really a bother. Right...?
M: Itís a crisp, dry brew, but also one thatís too astringent. I donít like the coarse feel in particular. A light body and moderate carbonation makes it (at least) somewhat drinkable, though.
O: Pumpkin ales like Schlafly Pumpkin Ale and Full Tilt Patterson Pumpkin succeed because they donít succumb to the pratfalls of the style. While not necessarily a total failure, this one doesnít succeed because it DOES fall victim to the problems of the style - too much bitter spicing, not enough balance between the sweet and aforementioned bitter. My first real letdown from Smuttynose, but to be fair, I wasnít expecting this to be fantastic.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. 6.45% ABV stamped on the neck. Clear golden orange with just over a finger of off-white head. Aromas of light pumpkin, spices, bits of herbs. Tastes of pumpkin, light spices, hints of nutmeg, some floral hops and crisp notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Simple pumpkin ale but solid.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Typical pumpkin beer spices - nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice greet the nose while the pour is a hazy pumpkin orange with a lasting white ring and sheet lacing. I taste a hop bitterness that lasts from start to finish with the spices kicking in near the end. Crisp and refreshing. Medium body with high carbonation. Overall, even thought it is refreshing, the pump flavors, sadly, are all but MIA.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear amber liquid with a white head thatís one finger high.
Nose: Nutmeg, spice, pumpkin, nuts, cinnamon and ginger.
Taste: Pumpkin pie and spice. Malt and a bit of salt.
Mouth: Medium body with little carbonation. A little bitterness at the end.
Not bad but then not that great either. Itís ok but not more...

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Great example of a pumpkin beer. I really enjoyed this one and will buy again. Captured fall and pumpkin without it fasting artificial.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Any interesting idea ops with pumpkin and spices. Appearances is not bad, head lasts for a little bit, clear amber color and some lace. Aroma is very mild a little spice and pumpkin. Flavor is just weird with spiced pumpkin and hop. Body is okay. Failed concept beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I am not sure if Iíve had such a ginger focused pumpkin ale before. I am a sucker for ginger so Iím into it. This is a cloudy light orange color w/ a small and fine bubbled head w/ a tight pattern of lace. Nose is dominated by ginger w/ some shades of other pie spice plus a lavender note that seems to come from the hops. This little bit of fruity/floral hop character and a bit of bitterness really separates this from most of itís ilk. It compliments rather than competes w/ the spice and makes for a crisp, drinkable spiced beer. This a medium bodied beer w/ relatively vigorous carbonation. It drinks a bit bigger than it is, feels more like an IPA strength beer but is really enjoyable regardless. I could see myself buying this stuff year round.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from warehouse package....the hoppiness takes away from the pumpkin flavor, but overall, a smooth & pretty good brew
