2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy orange color. The head is a rather typical barely off-white shade about one finger high. Great lacing is left behind, but retention isnít the best.
S: As expected, the spices are there. The spice component is low on sweetness, but high on nutmeg. I also pick up a bit of citrus peel, which adds a nice component to the (well restrained) spiciness.
T: Bitter citrus peel notes hit my tongue first. The spice notes, rather than immediately opening the flavor profile, sneak up near the finish to mingle with the citrusy flavor. Not much in the way of actual pumpkin (Iíve come to expect that now from the style). Thereís even a mineral touch in the aftertaste. All the main flavors seem to exacerbate each others harshness - but at least itís bland enough where itís not really a bother. Right...?
M: Itís a crisp, dry brew, but also one thatís too astringent. I donít like the coarse feel in particular. A light body and moderate carbonation makes it (at least) somewhat drinkable, though.
O: Pumpkin ales like Schlafly Pumpkin Ale and Full Tilt Patterson Pumpkin succeed because they donít succumb to the pratfalls of the style. While not necessarily a total failure, this one doesnít succeed because it DOES fall victim to the problems of the style - too much bitter spicing, not enough balance between the sweet and aforementioned bitter. My first real letdown from Smuttynose, but to be fair, I wasnít expecting this to be fantastic.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
355ml bottle pours an orange brown color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is pumpkin with some herbs and cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste is a fruity and malty sweetness with a herbal hop bitterness. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Enjoyable brew as it does not have any flavours that stand out from the rest. Very well balanced and tasty. One of my favorite pumpkin ales to date.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle orange brown with a two finger foamy off white head. Aromas of cinnamon clove and caramel malt. Itís a beer with pumpkin pie spice. Itís good for what it is but needs actual pumpkins next time.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Taster at the source. Not too excited about a pumpkin brew, but it is a new tick, and it is a free sample. Pours orange brown with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, malt, cinnamon, clove. Yeah, itís a beer with pumpkin pie spice. Not bad, I suppose. Caramel, pine hop, cinnamon, clove. The hop bitterness is about equal to the pie spice. Interesting.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Spicy, light veggie pumpkin aroma and flavour. Lighter copper caramel malt body. A hint of sweet, sugary pumpkin pie. Malty, light bitterness, just okay

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Shades of Green...one that survived the crash. Clear bronze color with a bubbly, khaki head that lasts. Sweet aroma of roasted pumpkin pie. Balanced flavor with good spice but also some perfumey sweetness. Pretty nice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale 6.6%, I picked this up last winter in Rome so the best before date is actually June 22, 2015 which means this beerís past itís best but hey thatís how things go when youíre an expat I guess. It pours a nice looking orange gold with a fairly thick light beige head. So far, so good. The nose is cinnamon, allspice, possibly coriander and some pumpkin flesh as well. Soft bodied, it feels like it may have lost some carbonation over time. The taste is nutty pumpkin flesh, cinnamon and light pumpkin pie spices. A pretty standard pumpkin beer, not over the top like Pumking but then again that might be due to itís age. Good fun stuff.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Another pumpkin beer that doesnít deliver the pumpkin pie experience. Another malty ale with fall spices. Just not what Iím looking for in a pumpkin beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In bottiglia. Non riesco ad amare questo stile e mi viene difficile da giudicare. Palato con sentori di zucca, zucchero caramellato, frutta gialla, zenzero.
