2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy orange color. The head is a rather typical barely off-white shade about one finger high. Great lacing is left behind, but retention isnít the best.
S: As expected, the spices are there. The spice component is low on sweetness, but high on nutmeg. I also pick up a bit of citrus peel, which adds a nice component to the (well restrained) spiciness.
T: Bitter citrus peel notes hit my tongue first. The spice notes, rather than immediately opening the flavor profile, sneak up near the finish to mingle with the citrusy flavor. Not much in the way of actual pumpkin (Iíve come to expect that now from the style). Thereís even a mineral touch in the aftertaste. All the main flavors seem to exacerbate each others harshness - but at least itís bland enough where itís not really a bother. Right...?
M: Itís a crisp, dry brew, but also one thatís too astringent. I donít like the coarse feel in particular. A light body and moderate carbonation makes it (at least) somewhat drinkable, though.
O: Pumpkin ales like Schlafly Pumpkin Ale and Full Tilt Patterson Pumpkin succeed because they donít succumb to the pratfalls of the style. While not necessarily a total failure, this one doesnít succeed because it DOES fall victim to the problems of the style - too much bitter spicing, not enough balance between the sweet and aforementioned bitter. My first real letdown from Smuttynose, but to be fair, I wasnít expecting this to be fantastic.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated on 10/19/14. Some pumpkin comes through in the aroma, along with spice and a bit of a caramel malt character, as well as a bit of a vegetable note. The flavor is also a bit more mild in the pumpkin spice, with a little more bitterness than other pumpkin beers, though more like an under ripe fruit or herbal tea bitterness. Not as pumpkin heavy as other pumpkin beers, but itís still there, and the beer itself seems better crafted than most.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Orangey coloured beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is herbal, and the flavour is quite deeply bitter with a herbal and spiced body. Overall a reasonable beer but quite strangely tasting at the outset.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl.
Appearance - golden amber with an attractive lacy head.
Nose - pumpkin and nutmeg. Cloves too.
Taste - nutmeg and light cloves.
Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy middle section and a dry spicy finish.
Overall - they have tried to hide the pumpkin (successfully) in the spices. Iíd like to taste more pumpkin. Good though.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle. Deep golden with one finger head. Fairly standard pumpkin style ale, but it hits all the marks. Medium spice with just enough pumpkin flavor. Light sweetness, and good balance.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy, amber, with a nice off white head that left beautiful lacing all over the glass. Aroma obviously some pumpkin, malts and some yeast. Taste is sweet, malty, spices and pumpkin... Drinkable, alcohol is there but it is a easy to enjoy beer.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Lost rating from last fall. Nice spice aroma. Hoppier than the typical pumpkin ale, at the expense of the pumpkin itself, it seems. Not bad but there are far better choices out there.
