CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 10, 2008 Slightly hazy orange pour has a thin, stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh pumpkin and cinnamon spice with a touch of doughy yeast. Body starts with a big pumpkin flavor and some crisp bittering hops and spices. Finishes crisp and bittersweet with some black peppery notes. A pretty decent pumpkin ale.
PilsnerPeter (1477), Flushing, New York, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle: Pours a hazy orange with a wispy off white head. The aroma is sofly sweet, along with toasted pale malt undertones- has a touch of crystal as well. Sweet squash, vanilla, clove and cinnamon are all there, but minimal. Mildly spicy. Has a velvety feel, with evident toasted pale malt upfront which precedes mild cinnamon and clove in the middle, followed with a toasted, peppery finish. Not much pumpkin character comes through, and the spices are there, yet remains homogeneous and predominately peppery. Still, it’s not bad. joeymacaroni (131), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 pours deep golden-orange with fluffy white head. aroma of freshly-baked pumpkin pie (or pie filler) with a light fruity note and spice. Flavor is heavy spice, pumpkin, roasted malt, and a slight floral bitterness to finish it up.maybe some caramel apple as well. Aftertaste is spice and floral hops with slight malt. medium carbonation, slightly oily, soft, viscous, creamy. pretty good and highly drinkable! DrDavid (351), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 3, 2008 (Bottle). Aroma is medium sweet, pumpkin, nutmeg, a little cinnamon. Orange gold body, off-white head. Taste is very pleasant of pumpkin and nutmeg. Not too sweet, not too spicy. Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2008 Orangey-amber colour. Caramel aroma is lightly cinnamony, nutmeggy. Fairly smooth palate has lots of nutmeg, a hint of bitterness. Clean, well-balanced character if not terribly distinctive. KnutAlbert (2322), Oslo, Norway Oct 3, 2008 Bottle in NYC.
Hazy gold.
Abit spicy, a bit fruity, rather thin.
Pepper and cinnamon over a fruity beer.
I have problems with a few beer styles - kölsch, mild and, now, pumpkin ale. They don’t thrill me at all. True to style for all I know, and unlikely to harm anyone if consumed in moderation.
