COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions." In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a medium head. Nice aroma of pumpkin and some spices. The flavor is similar - a lot of pumpkin, some cinnamon/nutmeg/clove, and a malty backbone. Finish is just a little bit soapy. A solid pumpkin beer, though not an outstanding one.

This autumn brew has a good spicy pumpkin aroma. The flavor is of sweet malt, mild spice, and more hops bitterness than is typical for pumpkin ales. It’s fairly good, just nothing special.

Pours cloudy golden orange. Heavily carbonated, lots of head and lacing. Flavors are brown sugar, honey, slight citrus, and spices. Tastes sweet, with nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar. A traditional pumpkin--nothing special.

12oz bottle, served in a pint glass. Decent enough pumpkin beer, a little light in the flavour department.

Good tasting Pumpkin Ale. I think it’s because it’s made with the puree that it gives it such taste. Pumpkin and Cinnamon. This is what I’m looking for in a Pumpkin Ale. Good beer.

Pour is a cloudy copper with a large white head. Aroma is a decent nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin combo. Flavor is just about the same. Nice mix of the spices and a decent pumpkin flavor. Not as over the top as some and it is a bit watery but this will satisfy your pumpkin need when all other pumpkin beers have disappeared.

Not a bad pumpkin case but not one of the best pumpkins I really don't like the spices ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

8/19/2010. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Fruity aromas with malt and of course pumpkin. Spicy and pumpkin flavors with malt and light hops. Not bad for the style.

Rating from 2010, 5.6%.

Bottle. Deep golden body. Frothy white head. Aroma of all spice, cinnamon, clove, toasted grain. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Lots of fall spices in this beer, but plenty of bitterness, too. Nice that’s it’s not a sweet pumpkin pie type of pumpkin ale.
