4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz. bottle stamped: "Bottled conditioned Feb. 2015, 11.1% abv". Pours a clear, deep copper with a ragged sheet of bubbles on top. Mild nose is spicy dark fruit and vanilla toffee. Big front of vanilla, brown sugar, cherry, dates and whiskey. After a bit it becomes evident thereís enough oak, wheat flour, roasted acorn and dry cocoa flavors on the finish to provide a check on the sweetness. Medium-heavy body has low-medium carbonation and hides the 11.1% fairly well.

Pulled from winter cellar (I live in house built in 1928, itís winter in Maine, itís been the coldest Feb on record, this beer is 50 degrees F).
Pours really clear amber in color, minimal head, light nose but as it warms it develops.
The flavor also develops intensely. After about 30 minutes the brew is simply amazing. Wow! So complex for a brown, the bottle conditioning shows through and you would think there is wood involved here.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear, brownish-red body resembling the color of cherry wood. Little to no head. Almost cloyingly sweet aroma of caramel, malts, and some smokey oak. Flavor is cane sugar combined with some earthy, nutty elements. For some reason, had Dr. Pepper tendencies for me. Dry boozy finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
pours dark copper. Almost no head. aroma is nutty and very sweet. Flavor is sweet. Molasses, bread, nutty, oak. The alcohol is very forward. medium body. slick, sticky mouthfeel. Finishes bitter and the alcohol really shows up at the end. Not that good. I will cellar this for a year and re-rate it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Golden amber in color with not much in the way of head retention or lacing. Smells of some bread and fruits. Taste is of sweet malts, dark fruits, and biscuits. Coats the palate nicely and is quite enjoyable to drink. I thoroughly enjoyed indulging on this Smuttynose take on an old ale!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear but very dark copper color with very little head. The aroma is boozy, with molasses, oak, brown sugar, walnuts. The flavor is really big and even boozier than the aroma. Figs, some maple, more oak, vanilla, and a little bit of a cough syrup like finish. I donít like this as much as Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale.

Bottle to pint glass. This guy pours a really nice looking ruby/brown with a one finger head that leaves almost no trace after a minute or two. The aroma jumps out with brown sugar or toffee. There's a fruitiness underneath too. The taste is dominated by malt sweetness and toffee. There's no hop character here. It's boozy and big. It's got some fruit peeking through as well. There's a slight oak bit in the back. It finishes smooth and creamy. Good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strangely pineapply nose. Def a cross between an old ale and a barleywine. Hops submerged, all malt aside from that pineapple aroma.

12 ounce bottle. Tawny light brown color. Small beige head. Buttery toasted malt aroma has notes of almonds and toffee. First sip yields a butterscotch malt flavor with a hint of oakiness. Warming alcohol and dried fruit undertones. there is a smooth silky mouthfeel and nutty malt character. Quite nice indeed!
