COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In craft beer, there are almost as many bad rye puns as there are bad hop puns; Smuttynose is happy to spare you from more of either. Instead, we’ll tell you about our new Big Beer, Rhye IPA. We brewed it because we like drinking hoppy American-style beers and we wanted a chance to brew with rye. The rest, as they say, is history. The result is a 7% hoppy IPA, with rye spiciness and big hop character. This beer will really get under your armor…
The image on the Rhye IPA label is a famous drawing of an Indian rhinoceros by 16th century German painter and printmaker, Albrecht Dürer. Dürer had never seen the creature before and created the drawing based on one deScription and a crudely scribbled sketch.

Tap...floral hop aroma leads the way to a piney hoppiness over a slick rye malt backbone, Refreshing and easy drinking.

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifted. The beer is a hazy copper color with a white head of foam. The aroma has rye spice, pine, and floral hops. Medium bitterness and moderate fruity sweetness. Dry finish. Medium body and medium to lower carbonation.

Aromas of rye, earth, pine and citrus. Taste is smooth but with a sharp rye presence and some spices. Pretty complex for being an IPA. I love it!

Love rye beers and this is a brilliant one. Slight spicy(herby?)ness from the rye, which balances well with the fairly punchy hops.

Bottle from Beermerchants, enjoyed at Åserød. Pours hazy deep golden/amber with a big creamy weak beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, rhye and resiny fruity hops, almost Barleywine like aroma. Taste is moderate sweet caramel and toffee, with a dry resiny and herbal finish. Moderate carbonated, clean light dry mouthfeel.

Hazy deep amber and copper body and a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rye, deep resinous and piney hops, some oatmeal and other specialty grains and a deep sweet smell from tropical fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive grain and rye flavours up front with a good dose of hops and bitterness right behind, all with a smooth texture and good balance of malt to hops. Aftertaste shows the rye coupled with the herbal bitterness with almost no sweetness at all. Overall, a well-balanced rye-based IPA with a good level of hoppiness and a nice balance, but without some of the other complexities of yeast and sweetness noticeable. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 17-May-2015 for US$2,06 sampled at home in Washington on 04-August-2015.

In bottiglia. Colore ramato, schiuma fine e abb persistente.
