Draft. Nice reddish color. Flavor is slightly syrupy sweet, without much else. Odd under-carbonated mouthfeel. Just kind of meh.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle@home, from Wine Spot, Cleveland, USA. Medium slightly sweet and sour aroma with overaged mango and a hint of vanilla. Darker yellow/orange color with small natural white head and slightly hazy liquid. Medium taste with slightly overaged fruits, sweeter malts and hops. Rye can be tasted easily. Medium/wide taste spectrum and long aftertaste with hops and fruits. Averagely balanced. Medium body with light/medium carbonation. Overall, good quality though unsurprising product. Good implementation of rye.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Another beer from Smuttynose’s arsenal that manages to be a really solid beer that’s readily available and inexpensive. This is a great Rye IPA that combines spicy/earthy rye bite and general IPA hop bitterness, but that manages to be tasty and refreshing, all while costing about $1.50 a bottle. It’s stuff like this that makes Smutty such a great brewery.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours slightly hazy orange-amber with a thick ivory head. Aroma presents strong hoppy and rye tones. Flavor echoes the aroma, but kicks it up a notch and introduces a touch of grapefruit plus some dusty malt. Mouthfeel is typical, though it has a nice hoppy and rye finish. Save the Rhye-nos!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great spicy hop nose. Cool bottle. Orange-copper color, cloudy with a small head. Nice weight with carbonation that matches the moderate bitterness. Piney, rye spice and a mild caramel sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours with a light head but very nice nose. Hops topping the maltiness. Taste more malty than expected and still some hops present. A little bit short on the palate.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a hazy, deep golden orange color with tangerine edges and a half finger off-white head that slowly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Decent retention with sporadic spots of soapy lacing left behind.
Sweet and earthy aroma with grassy hops, spicy rye and a strong malt character. Lots of caramel sweet along with some bread, toffee and roasted nut. Slight floral hop presence with a bit of resinous pine but the malt profile and rye take away from the hops in the nose.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a crisp hop bite up front that lingers over the spice and sweet malt backbone into a slightly dry finish. The rye is very prominent with a nice spicy, zesty flavor that nicely compliments the dry, earthy bitterness of the hops. Hop profile is a bit one dimensional but still has nice flavor. The malt backbone is huge, much stronger than I prefer. Lots of caramel, biscuit and toffee. Good for balance and blends well with the rye but it takes away from the hop flavor a bit too much for my preference. Still, this beer is very dry and bitter with spicy, grassy hops and dank pine needle character. Overall a decent tasting beer but I don’t think I would seek it out again.
