2013 bottle to a pint glass. Pours black with a huge khaki head that is spongey on the bottom and settles to a creamy dollop in top. Good sticky lacing. Aroma is earthy and musty with chocolate and coffee. Taste is dark malt, chocolate, coffee with a blanket of hops bitterness. The hops flavor is pronounced for a porter but is in perfect balance with the rest of the dark flavors. Medium, creamy mouthfeel.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark opaque brown with just a bit of highlight. A thick head of tan foam with great retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is very nice with a balanced combination of coffee and sweet cream with a bit of chocolate. Taste is indeed robust with brewed coffee being dominate along with some roastiness. There is a bit of sweetness in the middle with some chocolate and a moderate roasty and charred bitterness that lingers into the finish. Mouthfeel hints at being creamy and is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I really enjoyed this beer. Nothing very complex but flavors are well orchestrated and downright tasty. I'd choose this over many beers that have coffee added, for a coffee fix.

Bottle in NH. Pours deep brown with a large, frothy beige head. Dusty cocoa on the nose, moderate roast and burnt toast. Medium sweet flavor with lovely charred wood, rich and dry chocolate, strong roast, dried fruits, faint raisins. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Very well balanced to finish, plenty of richly roasted malts, char and ash, dark cocoa, mellow earthy bitterness. Exceptional stuff. Respect to Smuttynose for making such solid ore beers. These boys have been killing it for years and really dontít get enough attention.

Bottle- Dark brown/blackish. Dark Tan head fizzes up and subsides quick. When you first sip it, the first mouthful that pops out is the earthy burning smoked wood. I also can flavor up some coffee, nuts, dark chocolate, and some figs maybe. Very smooth, well balanced, and full bodied. A very good Robust porter. It makes me want to go pick up a lady with one arm too!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - thanks, J! Pours nearly black with dark tan head. Aroma dominated by sweet milky chocolate; some sugar, just a hint of coffee. Taste is much drier than nose - lightly sweet, roasted coffee bitterness that lingers nicely. Palate: medium body, average carbonation, just a shade thin. Overall: really nice porter.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Iím not too crazy about the bottle, but this one presents a great chocolate coffee aroma that surrounds your nose. It exhibits a pretty nice head and is great in cooler weather. Iím impressed with all of Smuttynoseís more roasted beers. This one fits in perfectly with the likes of Old Brown Dog and Really Old Brown Dog but takes it to the next level.

Tap. Pours dark amber with thick toffee colored head. Malty aroma with splashes of chocolate and coffee. Taste heavier on the coffee and roastiness.
