A hearty ebony colored ale that starts with a rich malty palate finished with clean hops and notes of coffee and chocolate.

Ok so I have a weakness for porters, but I REALLY liked this beer. Dark black-brown color with a coffee-colored head and decent strong roasted malty nose. Strong initial flavor of roasted something, giving way to a nice hoppy bite and mellowing to a lengthy aftertaste of bittersweet coffee. Just like a porter should.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2006 Pours dark with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malts and hops. The flavor is maimly roasted malts. Flavor also has a coffee-like quality, and a fair amount of hoppiness. GOOD BODY, GOOD BREW.

I have had this beer many, many times and is a recurrent occupant in my fridge. Robust it is, and leans more towards a stout in character. No problem, frankly I find the stylistic differences to be rather fuzzy anyway. Anway, this beer is dark, hoppy adn roasted, with a full moutfeel and a sweetish but roasty finish.

Bottle. Brewed and bottled: 02/05. Opaque jet-black pour with a medium-sized light-brown head that leaves tons of lace. Aroma of creamy coffee, chocolate, cocoa and some bitter hops. Lots of roasty malts and tons of bitter hops in the flavor. A bit hoppier than most porters. Creamy and dark chocolatey. The aftertaste is all bitter hops and cocoa powder. A great porter.

Beautiful solid black in color with a 1/2", frothy, tan head. Really a beauty to behold. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, cocoa butter and bitter. Flavor is dry oats and dark chocolate overridden by deep roasted coffee. Not pulling any surprises but pulls everything together oh so well. Creamy at first, then transitions to a waxy resonance on the palate. Heavy hopping leads strongly to bitterness, but heaps of roasted and chocolate malts help to balance it. Bitter chocolate carries over to the finish, and then the beer just slips away, thinly diffusing. Solid. Thanks tpkenned!

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2006 Bottle, both Aug. and Oct. are marked. August has a bigger snip so let’s pretent it’s from that mont. A huge head on this guy, but I did pour it kind of fast. Earthy, malty aroma: raisins, potting soil, cigar wrappers, and a touch of sour, the mixer stuff. The flavor has the same dry earthy notes but with dark fruity malt under it and coffee on top. Target-y hops are in the finish, but they take a far backseat to the earthy malt. Full-bodied mouthfeel with low carbonation; fits the beer very well. If I had this stuff at a festival I bet it’d score in the low 3’s. This really is a sipping/savoring beer, the chocolatey / earthy malts linger on the palate making for a small malt nirvana.

Pours dark dark brown with a big rich creamy chocolate brown lacy head. Smells of big malt and milk chocolate. Taste is very smoky. Strong coffee flavors with biter chocolate lurking beneath the surface. Dry bitter finish. Big bodied witha strong bitter aftertaste. Lots of big flavors in this brew but it is really smooth and extremely drinkable. This is my kind of beer. Could put down a six of this without thinking about it. Chocolate silk.

12 oz bottle with a bottled date of March 04. This poured out with a black body and a large light brown head that I had to quickly sip before it went overboard. Roasted malts and coffee were strong in the aroma with a good bit of bittersweet dark chocolate present as well. Overall the smell was pretty darn strong and good. The taste followed suite with strong coffee and roasted flavors stirring about and a nice chocolate staying in the background. The after taste was a lingering roasted one. About medium in body with a bit of a sticky mouthfeel. Very drinkable porter overall that goes down very easy and is flavorful enough to keep from getting boring. A great one for any one to try.
