12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown color almost black with a small tan head. This is an excellent porter. Good flavorful aroma with taste of coffee, expresso and chocolate and then a nice hop finish. I highly recommend this one.

Probably my favorite beer right now, intensely complex with espresso, chocolate, and some bitterness for balance. This is just a wonderful brew, A Very drinkable beer.

A dark brown beer that smells of roast coffee and chocolate and smooth earthy hops. Great porter taste of espresso, dark chocolate, some earth. Full bodied and drinkable. An awesome porter ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle served in a pint glass. A - Pours a very dark brown(almost black). 2 fingers of dark tan foam cling to the sides of the glass and retains well creating a frothy cap. S - Sweet roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, raw malts mix with roasted to create a complex aroma. Dark yeast, undercooked brown bread. Awesome! T - Intense bitter dark chocolate overwhelms the senses. Full bodied coffee, acidic, roasted malt, hints of lactic and acidic berry fruit. Hops seem to bounce between pine and citrus at different times. Lightly sweet against the powerful coffee flavors. Bitterness goes from from to back transforming into a cocoa bitter finish. M - Heavy body upfront but a thin liquidy feel towards the finish, light to medium drying carbonation. The finish is dry and bitter. A dense and well....robust porter that will grab your attention for sure. The coffee and roast character is bold and very fresh. Dense and intense keep coming to mind. The mouthfeel starts full and creamy then quickly trasnitions into a thin dry finish. This is what I was hoping Founders Breakfast stout would taste like. My first Smuttynose and it will not be the last. Serving type: bottle 08-24-2013

Very dark almost black pour. Clear. Not much head and what is there leaves no lacing. String malty scent. Caramel and lots of smoked malts in the mouth. Raisin in the finish. Dry. Low carbonation. Thick. Filling.

12 oz. bottle. Pour oz dark brown, nearly black and opaque. A frothy milk chocolate head that leaves good lacing. Smell is roasty with chocolate, coffee and hops. Taste is sweet caramel and sweet bitter chocolate followed by bitter coffee notes and a slightly hoppy finish. Nice porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 12oz. into a pint glass.....copper malty in color with aromas of coffee and chocolate. The malts and barley lend to the smooth taste and smell. Solid beer.

Bottle from Total Wine in Stuart for my 950th rating, and my 50th porter, as a line of demarcation - final one of ’13 as well, I am guessing. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head leaving some lacing. Aroma has chocolate caramel and some roast. Taste is chocolate heavy, with sweet milk chocolate and some bittersweet bakers chocolate present, also a solid roastiness with caramel. Medium to full bodied and fairly rich and dry. Finishes just to the sweet side of bittersweet - choco/caramel winning over the bitter roast/bakers chocolate sides. One of the earliest porters ever had is still a very enjoyable one.

Fantastic porter. Great roasted aroma with hints of coffee. Very dark color with a foamy head. Medium to higher weight. Decent carbonation. Strong roasted flavors with coffee and some chocolate but as enhancements that don’t overshadow the true nature of this great beer. Some hops bitterness on the finish but not distracting. Great first impression of the brewery.
