Westmeister’s Birthday Beer Tasting Extravaganza Beer #7. Brought to the tasting by a longtime friend who mostly prefers to drink Miller High Life. All things considered, he chose well. Smells of coffee and chocolate while pouring black with a tan head. Flavor is chocolatey and roasty. Mouthfeel is just a touch oily. Bottle - Westmeister’s House - Cumming, GA
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 PhilHarmstead (9) - Vermont, USA - MAY 15, 2013 does not count
Lovely dark brew. Like a true porter, it’s smooth easy drinking after work. A fabulous everyday beer for those of us who know that dark beers are not simply a winter phenomenon. Good notes of coffee, toastiness, delicious yum yum time.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Tac (86) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Dark brown body with thick brownish head with fair lacing. Strong aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, some cardboard. Body is quite thick , low in carbonation, dry and very bitter. Not well balanced, very bitter aftertaste.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 trollcat (11) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 27, 2013
Poured into an imperial pint glass it fills in nicely with a light coffee color head on top of an almost black body. Has almost a faint coffee smell mixed with malt. A little too far on the malty side for me (although that’s primarily because the taste associates slightly with soy sauce personally). Other than that it was a full and rich beer which I would have again.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tmoreau (1625) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - APR 20, 2013
12 oz. bottle from "the Beer Cave" at the Kane County Cougars stadium in Geneva, IL.. Poured to plastic with a black/brown hue, a modest but frothy, brownish tan head, and a quickly diminishing ring of lacing. Both aroma and taste were chocolate, roasted coffee, and just a touch of woody smokiness. The body was medium to full, with a mouthfeel that had a nice creaminess to it, and no bite to the moderate hop bitterness. Went down smoothly as I enjoyed the game.

Bottle. Pours really dark. Another porter, better than most. Nothing to say really.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ICEatALAMO (535) - Troy, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2013
Bottle. The pour is dark with little head. The aroma is a standard porter, lots of malt. The taste is good up front, a mouthful. Fades a little at the end and all you get is some smoke. A good porter.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 BMMillsy (686) - Florida, USA - APR 12, 2013
Pours black from the bottle with a creamy kahki head that sticks around. Aroma of coffee and chocolate, with lots of roasty malt. Very smooth mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Coffee and roastiness abound with a hint of chocolate. Hops come in but really fade into a creamy flavorful porter. Very nice beer.
