Easily one one of my favorite everyday porters. Rich, malty character with a nice roast to it. The flavor is nutty, with, again, a nice roast character. It’s a good meaty beer to put alongside steak. The mouthfeel is not overly thick, but lingers a little in the mouth. Overall, again, one of my favorite go-to’s for porters.

September 25, 2014. Bottle at SBWF. Pours black with a creamy brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, light dried fruit, and ash. Taste is dark bitter chocolate, medium sweet biscuity. Finish is medium dry bitter roasted coffee notes. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation.

Delicious porter. Aroma was alright. Notes of roasted coffee but not very full. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a tan ring for a head. Taste was nice especially for the low ABV. Roasted coffee beans with a mild dark chocolate finish. Light hoppiness and a nice malty finish. Tastes like an 8% beer. Nicely done.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has dark chocolate and bread with some plum, raisin, mild coffee and licorice. The flavor is substantial with rich bread, roasted malt, earthy hops, some dark chocolate and a nice smoky, roasted finish. Medium bodied and a decent amount of dark malt acidity gives it a nice bite. Very enjoyable.

Spongy, decent head with a froth brown head, pours a dark brown color. Has aromas of toffee, coffee, creamy chocolate, roasted malts, hints of raisins and salt - very inviting, also very sweet smelling. Begins with wooden malts among a toffee sweetness with hints of cane sugar, which directly turns more present, accompanied by molasse. Burned malts settle the balance in this one, smoothing the way for a spicy coffee bitterness, wrapped up by soft cream, creating a smooth mouthfeel. High carbonation adds complexity and piercing force to the coffee, which punshes in a pleasant way through the slick sweetness, creating a convincing, diversified complexity. Finishes very smooth, sweetness turns coca-cola like for a split-second, soon getting detained by rich, roasted, unsweetened chocolate and coffee, along with wooden hints.

Bottle. From a trade around 07. Best before: feb 11. Black, beige head. Chocolate aroma with notes of prunes and dark, toasted malt. Very nice and promising aroma. A palate with some carbonation fills the mouth immediately and spreads sweet chocolate notes, strong coffee flavours and an intense finishing malty bitterness, which stays on the tongue for a while. Lovely beer.

Excellent beer for Autumn. Chocolate, malty hues and notes. Thick and rich head. It has a flavor of roasted coffee with a smooth wash down. Not as bitter as the color suggests but extremely drinkable.

An excellent porter! Dark brown to almost black with tan head of fine bubbles. The lacing continues down the glass very thin but is there all the way to the end---even when interrupted drinking takes 25 minutes or more! The aromas seemed a little weak for such a flavorful beer. Some smell of smoke and coffee malt; tastes of coffee and very slight bitter chocolate, some soy. Well done porter that is so easy to drink and maintains good flavor even as it warms to room temp. Has a slight bitter finish, not too dry a little more fig or raisin would have been perfect but still is an excellent brew!
