I thought this beer was quite good; it was the name says, a quite robust porter. Lots of very dry roastiness with some bitterness and some nice accompanying flavors. Very good.
It pours black with a tall root beer-like head which was tan in color and demonstrated some durability. Aroma was lots of dry roastiness with some measure of toffee, coffee, and chocolate smells. The first flavor that hits you is a big amount of bitterness brought on by just how much dry roastiness there is in the flavor which is accompanied by some chalky mouthfeel, followed with a sweeter and smoother finish. About half-way down the glass, the mouthfeel seem smoother and slicker as well.
I thought this beer was quite good, and i would recommend it as a very fine (dry) porter. I bought this bottle at Woodman’s in Oak Creek.

Oct 10, 2008 12 oz, bb Mar 09. Opaque black with a lasting half-inch foam that frosts the glass all the way down. Nice aroma of chocolate mocha. Big flavor of dark chocolate with light caramel on front, turns more towards a rich coffee with some nice piquant green herb and hickory char. Medium-heavy body is creamy smooth and roasty dry.

Oct 5, 2008 Bottle thanks to Mark. Pours a black color with a medium light-brown head. The aroma is very nice; roasted malts, some coffee, light dark fruits and smoke. The flavor is excellent; lots of rich roasted malts and some chocolates. A strong hop mix balances the beer out somewhat. Lots of smoke and a nice dark fruit aspect too. Very nice.

Sep 28, 2008 Poured a really nice black color witha bit of an off-white head. Aroma was roasted malt and chocolate with just the barest hint of hops in the background. Flavor had an interesting mix of hop and roast bitterness, but there was a lot of chocolate in this one too. Alternatively smooth and bitter, this one had a lot going for it. Nice beer.

Sep 26, 2008 12 oz bottle poured into glass; Pours out very black for a porter. Very little head that dissipates very quickly. Smells of hoppy hickory smoked coffee and tastes similar. Bitterness and slight chocolate/coffee finishes off the medium palate.

Sep 24, 2008 Nice black/brown pour. Small disappating tan head. Very roasty aroma malt, coffee. Nice strong roast/burnt malt with mocha and some coffee bitters. More hop flavor than some porters, finishes with a clean bite. Not bad at all, will look for more from this brewer. Not quite as good as the Dark Horse I had a few weeks back.
