| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 8, 2010 Chocolate coffee and roast. An IPA’s bitterness coupled with slippery malt. The chocolate malt melds brilliantly with the bittering hop. This is outstanding. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the best brewery in New England. Robust indeed. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2010 [Bottle] Pours a deep, clear brown with a small tan head that dissipates to a ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma initially is loaded with coffee, some chocolate, a touch of hops, and a bit of vanilla. Flavor is heavy on the dark roasted coffee notes, some hop bitterness, a good deal of astringency, and a strong lingering bitterness on the finish. Wow, this one is quite bitter towards the back end. Medium-light mouthfeel and light carbonation. Berley31 (230), New Brunswick, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2010 A: Poured with a spare, tan-colored head that dissipated quickly to a thin ring. Body is dark black and completely opaque.
S: Very nice aroma with lots of dark chocolate and a slight roasted twinge as well.
T: Lots of dark chocolate in the flavor, and some coffee is detectable as well. The finish is actually quite bitter, and has a fairly long duration.
M: Medium-to-full bodied, very creamy, with soft-average carbonation.
D: A really nice porter, and definitely lives up to the ’robust’ in its name. Another winner from Smuttynose. JCastner (109), New York, USA

Full, malty body with dark chocolate and burnt caramel. The aroma hints at the delights awaiting you within the glass. Smooth, drinkable palate but really you should take your time! Excellent dryness once the dark fruit and cocoa flavours pass. A great example of a porter. Toxygen (414), Sanford, Florida, USA
