Very stout like pour and judging from appearance this is already living up to its name. On the aroma I’m picking up a lot of bitter black coffee and semi-sweet chocolate with a nice roasted quality. The taste is up front with coffee and more of those roasted notes, bitter chocolate and finishes with some hop bitterness. The mouth feel is medium to full bodied. This is a porter that lives up to its name, exactly what comes to mind when i picture a porter.

Bottle from Signal Variety, Plaistow NH. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate nibs and hint of coffee. Appearance is opaque black with minimal light brown head, with fair foamy lacing. Taste is balanced moderately sweet chocolatey flavor with moderately bitter coffee flavor. Palate is medium bodied with medium, slightly slick texture, soft carbonation and nice, long finish like chocolate covered espresso beans. Overall, really nice all around. Nitpicking, head could be larger, texture a little thicker, but those things only separate it from where it is--very, very, good, with the only place left to go--world class.

Bottle from Rudat, Dortmund. The beer starts malty intense. Dark red fruit, plums, malt with a nice subtle but intense sweetness. Viscous, bitter-sweet, a bit too burned in the end, still easy to drink, roasted burned malt with plums and quite much hop bitterness in the end. Very interesting but nice!

Deep brown with small head. Very solid porter. Huge roasted malt. Chocolate and mild hop bitterness. Textbook example of the style.

On tap at beertemple, amsterdam. Body is pitch black, head is medium, brownish, creamy, mostly diminishing, excellent lacing. Nose is roasty, flavor is coffee, roasted malt, toast, mocha, toffee. Light sweet, heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting roasty bitter. Full body, dry sticky texture, average carbonation. Quite easy dessert beer, great taste, wonderful beer.

Noire petit collet persistant. Aromes café moka. Un petit regal une fois en bouche. Les saveurs torréfiés enveloppent le palais. La longueur est toutefois un peu courte mais cela reste u e grande bière.

Originally rated on 9/28/14. "Pours a dark brown/ black body with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Medium thick lace rings are left behind. Smell is of dark and burnt roasted malts, cocoa, and touch of soy sauce . Taste is much the same with cocoa, bitter coffee, and citrus hints on the finish. There is a nice balance between the roasted coffee and chocolate malts and hop bitterness. Crisp mouthfeel yet smooth going down. Overall, a nice robust and tasty porter indeeed.

Bottle to pint glass. Dark brown pour with a finger or so of tan head. Mostly coffee grounds and cacao nibs in the aroma - a little bourbon in the back. Taste is similarly coffee-forward with a little prune coming in after and a boozy kick at the end.

On tap at the Beertemple. Dark with a small beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, hint of alcohol and something sour. Taste bitter sweet roasted, coffee, roasted malts, hint of sour, bitter roasted coffee aftertaste. Bit thin maybe, but not bad, especially considering the low abv.
