Great malt and candi makes this very drinkable and popular, carrying the peat moss smoke, which is controlled and you can smell it. Above average hoppiness and rich brown chcolately colour. Above average carbonation. jason (1621), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Bottle. Poured a deep brown body with thin head. Aroma was smokey, reminded me of a rauchbier. Flavor was sweetmalt, smoked meat. Sweet malty body with a peaty smoked meat flavor. Good but very unique. blipp (1641), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark ruby brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with hints of smoke. Medium body. The flavor starts sweet with some hints of dried fruit, moves to a nice burnt wood smokiness, and finishes with some earthy and roasted malt. A very good beer, this style in general is really starting to grow on me. RCL (1460), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Nice subtle smokiness to the aroma and flavor. Sweet, but not at all syrupy or cloying. Excellent balance. Beerdedone (1879), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2008 Bottle sampled. Pours a deep dark brown with a creamy light tan headthat left some lacing. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and some light smoke. Flavor is toffee, smoke, caramel, and malt sweetness with a short bitter finish. Nice brew ChainGangGuy (2555), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Appearance: Clearish, medium brown body with a small, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, smokey malt aroma with dark fruits coated in caramel.
Taste: Sweet caramel, fruity flavor permeated by the just right smoked malt character. Faint hint of cocoa powder. Slight touch of spicy hops but no real bitterness. Smokey, sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: While some Scotch Ales inspire nothing but eye-rolling with every strained sip, this one’s actually pretty tasty. decaturstevo (1985), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2008 A bottle shared at the Foothills gathering by the GA Crew(Beercellar I think). An almost cherry red pour with a foamy gooey lace. Aroma of almost cheeries as well. A large malt presence as well. Very sweet malt flavor. Very light pleasant hints of abv and a nice finishing bitter. Just a tad thin but solid palate makes up for that. Another fine beers form this brewer. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Pours mildly fogy with a minimal dark crème head. Nose is nice. Noticeable malt presence with some almost burnt leaves there as well. Sweet tones lie in the back. Flavor is super peat! It’s just like peat all up in my mouth *makes motions with fingers in front of mouth*. In no way is it overdone. Full and consistent. Feel is full with carbonation and well bodied on the liquid. Nice to drink. A bit too much going on here to go far beyond large sips. But it’s still pretty darn good.
