Aroma was chocolate, sugar, more hops than other Scotch ales I’ve had and loads of caramel. Couldn’t get any smoke notes. Good stuff anyway. 2007 bottle: same color, similar notes but smoke notes are obvious. Better. 7/4/7/4/15 axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA

Toasty, smokey aroma with a hint of brown sugar that also reminds me of a toasted coconut doughnut. So it would mix well with a coffee stout, then? Sweet, with rich toffee notes and accents of molasses and wood. I found the sweetness started to get to me by the end of the bomber but it’s a pretty solid beer and if sweet is your thing, do it up. beerprincess (51), Indiana, USA

I was actually surprised to see the relatively "low" alcohol content, which i had pegged in the 8% area. A little roastier than most scotch style beers I’ve tasted, but overall an excellent beer within the class.
