egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 1, 2009 [Draft @ EB+B] Poured a clear, brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, smoke, nuts, roast, toast, and toffee. Taste of toffee malts, caramel malts, some roast, nuts, smoke, and a bit of chocolate, with some alcohol in the finish. SFLpunk (132), South Burlington, Vermont, USA May 8, 2009 22oz brown glass pry-top. Bottled conditioned in 2008.
Appearance: Pours with lots of carbonation. 3 inch head takes minutes to come down leaving nice lacing. Cloudy tawny/mahogany. Tan head.
Nose: Toasted malts, slight biscuit, cream.
Palate: Medium-bodied and crisp with some acid from the hops. Lightly smokey and pleasantly sweet. Toasty notes and the alcohol shows at midpalate giving the beer an evaporating feeling.
Notes: Pretty well balanced and not as sweet as I had expected. Great edges from the hops and alcohol. A little boozy, but a nice beer. Very drinkable and "smooth." (Wow, I can’t believe I just used the word smooth!) daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 27, 2009 Bottle, nice beer. Pours a reddish brown wtih a very small head. Aroma has caramel, nuts, bread, and a hint of smoke. The smoke is also in the flavor, very interesting. It goes well with the nuttiness and the malts. Fun beer to try. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Mar 25, 2009 Pours to a dark brown body with a medium, but dense sheen of creamy light beige head. Nice lacing. The aroma is really caramelized toffee and nice walnuts. Deeply malty. The flavor is really creamy milk chocolate, subtle smokiness, lots of caramelized malts. The palate is roasty and medium bodied. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Mar 20, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a brown color with a big foamy tan head. Nose is roasted nuts with caramel malt notes. Palate is full with some light carbonation notes. Flavor is roasted nuts, some dark caramel flavors, and a full finish. amp811 (38), Charleston, South Carolina, USA Mar 17, 2009 Updated: Jul 15, 2009Very malty with little hops bitterness to counterbalance it, which I love. The malt combined with the candy sugar give it a pleasant, sweet taste. If you’re not careful, you’ll finish this one quickly.
Note: I’m a little biased when it comes to a Scotch Ales, especially a good one like this. Bier brauen (210), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 15, 2009 Dark, red-brown color. No head, no lacing. Lifeless in my glass. Nice balance. Decent taste, but a little too watery for a scotch.
