Nice dense tan head tops the beer. Aroma of bubble gum, malt, prunes, peat and some light nuts. Full-bodied; Prunes and peat dominate the taste with some other spices and lighter tastes running throughout the palate. Nuts, malt and some sugars are noticeable in the aftertaste. Overall, a good scotch ale-really nice after these two years! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 10-December-2004. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 14, 2004 Dark, medium-thin, ruby-brown body with an eggnog colored head of extremely fine bubbles. Smells like an APA, sugary malts , wet hay, fruits with some piney hopping. Interesting dry and sweet taste. Lots of malt and a palate of cherries, tobacco, dark fruit malt, chocolate. Hop aftertaste is pretty good. Lots going on here but I can’t say that it really all fits. My buddy just had his that had been aging for 4 years and I believe mine definatey would benefit from seniority. Right now it is too juvenile with lots of disjointed flavors and an abrupt, coffee/metallic hop ending. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of malt, nuts, fruit, cognac, and tobacco. Tastes very malty and rich, with some fruit, nuts, and finishing bursts of malty dryness. Firm palate. pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2004 Big bottle. Clear brown ale; no head; no lace. Full malt flavor, lots of roasted barley and chocolate malt with a hint of coffee. Easy on the hops, dry and roasted finish. More of a porter than what I think of as a scotch ale. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2004 On tap at Andy’s Corner. Dark mahogany in color with a medium size
tan head. Sweet, malty aroma with a fair
amount of alcohol on the nose. Flavor was mildly sweet, with a mostly malty
taste and a bit of hop bitterness on the finish. As others have noted, it tastes
like the alc. % is a bit higher than stated. jeffc666 (1889), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 8, 2004 Hazy brown-ruby body. Medium frothy tan head.Lacing is decent though not outstanding. The aroma is light peat and toffe. Not much else. Flavor is quite sweet. Lots of unfermented sugar in this one. Light to medium bitteness. The peat detected in the aroma is absent fro mteh flavor, seemingly lost in the sea of sweetness. Medium body, medium bitter. That is it, and that is the problem with this one. Needs some work to really come together fully.
