Bottle from Charles Street. A very even nose and flavor - char, roast, caramel, malt and very, very light chocolate. Creamy texture and nice, smooth finish. One of the best Scotch Ales I’ve sampled.

2007 from Westmere Beverage. Pour dark brown with some sediment. 2-3 fingers of head. Aroma is caramel, hops, and what I assume is peat because it’s a common aroma to other Scottish ales I’ve tried. Flavor is sweet but with a alcohol bite that mellows as you drink. Not much of a finish. Mouthfeel is creamy. Good beer overall.

(22 oz. bottle (2007, labelled as "Scotch Ale") from Downeast Beverage, cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Good but expected a little more...Pours dark burnt slightly reddish amber. A finger or less of biege head that’s a little fizzy. Aroma of dark caramel, peat and smoke. Mouthfeel is medium-heft, slightly sticky in finish but actually a touch loose and fizzy. Light webby rings of lacing. Flavor is pretty much all about the peat and smoke with a light bit of dark caramel underneath. The peat and smoke flavor almost seem a bit contrived. Lightly hot. Certainly drinkable and nice but kind of a one trick pony where one sip pretty much summed it up.

bomber 2007... pours a surprisingly clear reddish/brown whiskey color with a thin creamy light tan head. sweet grain and brown sugar dominate the nose as fruit/possibly cooked cherries, dry crackling wood, peat, leather and cocoa take second stage. the palate is not nearly as sweet as these tend to be and certainly not cloying.... pleasant and on the drier side. there’s lots of caramel and malt flavors along with cocoa, peat and a smoky astringency on the finish. the alcohol is noticed as it heats up but is quite welcome in this case. medium body. slick and smooth with light carbonation...

Poured a deep, brownish ruby w/ a little head. Aroma had a peaty, smokey maltiness. Flavor had a smokey malt (scotch whiskey flavor) w/ alcohol hint at end of taste. Medium to heavy mouthfeel with an oily texture. What I would expect from the scotch ale style.

2007. Doesn’t not taste like I remember, at all having had on tap at Delaney’s! (But they always fuck orders up anyway) Pours a darker reddish caramel with a decent light tan head. Peaty bandaidy nose with a bit of fruit. Some toast. Kind of chemically. Creamy light body, above average carbonation level. Big ass peat over fruity malt. Rich caramel backbone with substantial hops and alcohol. Lingering tannic astringency. Thoroughly enjoyable.

22oz Bottle Conditioned in 2007, thanks to notalush for the bottle. Clear reddish brown with a one finger creamy beige head, fair retention. Plenty of sweet caramel and toffee sits atop some lightly smoky peated malt--mmmm. There are also light hints of dry wood. Flavor delivered what the aroma promised with plenty of smoke and peated malt to make me happy, and enough dry woody notes to keep the caramel and toffee from getting cloying--I was just a tad nervous that they’d used candy sugar, but you wouldn’t be able to tell. There was also a salty tobacco note. Dry finish with bitterness peaking around a 2-3. The alcohol was nicely warming, but not hot or boozy. Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation. Not much makes me happier than a good Scotch ale, and this is no exception.
