May 24, 2004 Subtle plum and spice aroma. Brown sugar and malt in body, sweetness noted through the usage of candy sugar. Not incredibly flavorful or unique but classy and well-done. Straightforward, lacks fruity or roasty notes but a lot of understated breadiness. A different approach and more subtle than most Scotch varieties.

Dec 11, 2005 Dark ruby appearance with a small head that disappeared fast and left little lacing. Earthy, slightly smoky aroma dominated by caramel malts, molassas and dark fruit. Taste paired up fruit (cherry) and chocolate with an underlying earthiness. Smooth finish masked the alcohol well. On tap at Mahaffeys in Baltimore.

Apr 17, 2006 Poured a cloudy dark brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma is carmel, sweet smoke, and roasted malts. Flavors were carmel and roasted malts with some sweet smoke and molasses.

Dec 1, 2007 Hmmmm. Really dark in the glass. Piney aromas and some hop backing. Not as thick or as heavy as you might think on the palate. Plenty of malts, caramel and a nice malty finish, which is sharp instead of drying. I wish this would have been on the market sooner than December!

Mar 25, 2009 Pours to a dark brown body with a medium, but dense sheen of creamy light beige head. Nice lacing. The aroma is really caramelized toffee and nice walnuts. Deeply malty. The flavor is really creamy milk chocolate, subtle smokiness, lots of caramelized malts. The palate is roasty and medium bodied.

Jun 27, 2008 Poured a deep, brownish ruby w/ a little head. Aroma had a peaty, smokey maltiness. Flavor had a smokey malt (scotch whiskey flavor) w/ alcohol hint at end of taste. Medium to heavy mouthfeel with an oily texture. What I would expect from the scotch ale style.

Jan 9, 2008 Purchased a 22-oz bomber at Discount Liquors in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear reddish amber brew with a thick beige head that has some good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, a touch of smoked peat, and raisins. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a strong peaty flavor that overpowers any caramel malt or any hop presence. Finish is smooth, creamy with a smokey peat aftertaste that really makes this beer a memorable drink.
