3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
An OK beer. A little weak flavored for the style, but all in all decent. Aroma was alright. Roasted malt, earth and a hint of burnt caramel. Pour was a nice deep dark amber with a one finger off white head. Taste was a tad thin. The burnt caramel and earth hit first, followed by smoke. The finish was very quick and left a lot to be desired. Decent carbonation. Was expecting a lot more

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle dated 2012 into a tulip.
A: Malty. Hint of grapes. Dates. Dry, sweet.
A: Pours with nice head retention but color is a thin dull brown.
T: Exactly like the smell. Malty, super sweet. Dry and watery on the finish. Sharp. Boozy finish.
P: Light, watery. boozy. Sharp sweetness.
Overall there are a couple good things here with a nice date note. The grape note is also nice but too many offputting things. Unbalanced sweetness and booziness. Extremely harsh on the palate.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a dark clear brown color with an average to large frothy tan head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Medium toasted malt and dark sweet aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted malt sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. A solid complex brew.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2013 Malty aroma with nuts, wood, and caramel. Flavor is mildly sweet with caramel, some fruit, and nuts. Some fruity bitterness and smoke in the finish. Iím definitely becoming a fan of the Smuttynose Big Beer series. This isnít quite as good as the Baltic Porter, but still a fine beer.

This beer is true to the style. Nice and malty the taste is smooth. The only thing this beer lacks in this style is massive flavor. Very good though

Pours clear amber with off white head. Very fruit forward scotch. Smell is sweet fruity, earthy, slight roast, slight booze as it warms to room temp. Taste is sweet light fruitiness, cherry, caramel, slight nutty. Nice.

Big thanks to Phatdog1! 22oz bottle. Poured a beautiful unfiltered brown color with a khaki head and massive lacing throughout. Taste of caramel malts, sweet malts, whiskey, and smoke. Medium-high carbonation, medium molasses body. Excellent brew!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown pour with strong ruby highlights. Dark cream head. Aroma of plums, nuts, cinnamon and smoke. Flavor is much the same. Dark fruits and light, oily smoke. Cherry, plum, maybe blueberry. High hop bitterness for the style. Alcohol is strongly present, contributing a pleasant warmth to the mix. Mouthfeel is oily and slick. I'd go a touch chewier if I had my choice, but still nice. Overall a really well made example of the style.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours dark amber with small light-colored head. aroma is light malty with some hint of smoke odors, raisin and other dark fruits. Taste is initially sweet, malt dominant of caramel, toffee and finishing with a sharp peaty smoke/alcohol bite. Medium bodied, mostly full flavored, could be a bit more into the burnt raisin/prune to fill out the taste into the smoked finish. Very drinkable brew.

Bomber. Nose of deep dark caramel and chocolate, rich malt, roast, hint of peaten smoke. Deep red pour with a jiggling light tan head. Taste is sweet with medium bitterness and good balance, a lightly scratching floral character, wood and light cherry. Rich malt depth with a dominant peat smoke finish and aftertaste, lovely campfire remnants. Smooth, velveteen feel on the full body, but not fat or flabby. Itís good but not great.
