bonbright7 (161), Bellport, New York, USA Jan 14, 2008 Cask at Dek’s American. I liked this ale very much as we had a pin of it sitting on the bar. Its hoppy aroma welcomed the first taste which found volumes of light to medium malts vying for attention. The previous notes about tang and yeast elements held true in my experience. I was not a fan of this in a bottle, but on cask its nature was revealed.
maugus4ever (59), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Nov 21, 2008 Pours a nice copper color with a white head and good lacing. Great combination of malts and hops makes this pretty complex. I like that this is more hopped than most pale ales. jb (767), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 copper colored, unfiltered, thick head to start, great lacing. 4/5 appearance.
Peaty aroma, dough. Malty palate, very smoky. On the malty side of balance, surprised this is a ’pale’,
the hops don’t quite seem to balance the crapload of hops.
elihapa (382), Hawaii, USA Nov 20, 2008 11/10/08 notes: bottle. Pours an unusual amber-brown color with a medium-sized, white head. Aroma is toasty, with peet, soil, hops, and citrus. Complemented by a light body, this pale ale was certainly unusual: it was heavily hopped – which lended estery flavors -- but also with unusual toasted, bitter, and tart-citric notes as well. Certainly unusual, and I know I wouldn’t want more than a couple of these at once. Low points on drinkability, but I’ll will say, Shoals PA has distinctive and not unpleasant character. blipp (937), Grand Island, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours orange amber with an off white head. Well balanced aroma with sweet malt and hops. The flavor is light but well balanced, a touch sweet with hops in the finish. Nice. epf33 (183), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Nov 19, 2008 not a bad beer, didn’t impress me much, i know it and other beers by it’s mother brewery won some awards... but i don’t think it’s award winning beer
