3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 joebudzjoe (621) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 23, 2012
Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza, Stamford, CT. I’ve been seeing a lot of rye IPAs lately, and it’s an experiment that requires careful mixing. Unfortunately, this brew provides a slightly acidic aftertaste that prevents this from being a real enjoyable beer.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 LtDan (1676) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - AUG 21, 2012
Appearance: Pours a hazy orange. Leave behind great lacing and a thin cap of white atop.
Aroma: An even steven nose full of pine and citrus essence, peach.
Taste: Peach, light toffee, a little citrus tartness with a earthy bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Everything I look for in an IPA is in this beer. Well done. It wasn’t what I expected at all based on my many encounters with Rye IPAs over the years. While had some Rye spiciness, the hops were the start of this show.
