COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now known as Smuttynose Durty Mud Season Hoppy Brown Ale

Smuttynose is proud to introduce our eighteenth Short Batch Beer, "Durty," a brown IPA! There’s no denying that IPA is king of the craft beer world right now. The style is getting so popular that even the big brewers are attempting their own versions, while IPA sub-styles, like session IPA, double IPA, white IPA and black IPA, continue to be created and defined. Brown IPAs combine the caramel and nutty-biscuity flavors of a brown ale, with an American IPA-sized does of hops; it’s pretty straight-forward, but pretty delicious. On to the beer...Durty is a big beer (8.4% abv, 55 IBU) packed full of big hops. We’ve used Polaris, a new German high alpha variety for bittering, followed by American hop icon, Nugget, for the flavor additions and finally, a boatload of Simcoe post-fermentation for dry-hopping. The malt selection isn’t too different from Old Brown Dog, but it’s a bit heavier on the nutty character and dark cocoa notes.

Otroligt smakrik, mörk färg. Ganska söt och relativt besk. Hmm, en öl som är intensiv upplevelse. För dig som vill ha lite mer.

Pours a dark brown mahogany color, with a thick frothy tan head. Aroma is maple syrup, malt, and a slight note of pine hops. Taste is very malty with a nutty cherry wood flavor coming through. Sticky syrup like feel. Slight hop presence. Very well balanced. Good easy drinking beer.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2015 An awesome amalgam of dry spicy IPA and malty barley wine flavors. Malty but not caramelly, this one is far more earthy, like an amped up brown ale with an aggressive dose of English high alpha hops. Very nutty finish. This redhead leaves her sticky lace draped cross the glass and has a long sassy hop spice fade.

From bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with big foamy beige head. Medium bodied. Very sweet aroma with hints of raisins, liquorice, toffee. Strong alcohol taste, a bit sweet but mostly bitter. First impression was very good, mostly because of the strong aroma

Bottle camping in France. Brown pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of nuts, toffee, fruits, some spices and a bit of bread. Flavor is quite bitter fruity hops and nice thick nutty malts. Great balance, unique brew.

Pours a brown color with off-white head. Caramel malt, some pine, and roast on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with malt and hop notes, a little brown sugar sweetness too.

On tap at beertemple, amsterdam. Body is hazy brown, head is big, brownish, rocky, fully lasting, excellent lacing. Nose is malty brown sugar, flavor is caramel, brown sugar, vegetables, light spices, leather, earth, cocoa. Medium to heavy sweet, medium roasty bitter. Finish is medium lasting roasty medium bittersweet. Full body, dry sticky texture, average carbonation. Easy dessert beer, quite easy, tasty, great one.

Bottle: Dark reddish brown with a thin head that quickly dissipated. The aroma is malt, floral and citrus. The flavor is hoppy and roasted malts. Very enjoyable.

Clear, but deep brown body, the cap has settled to a thin filmy ring. Aromas of citrus hops and caramel. Flavor is much the same as the aromas with the caramel malts losing out to the hops. Nice slightly bitter finish, good roast. Overall a rather nice beer from Smuttynose.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass This is not my favorite Smuttynose offering. I was impressed with the "durty" brown murky color but I thought the flavor was overpowering.
