3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7254) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2012
Tap sample at Smuttynose brewery in April 2010. Nice to get a pre-release sample. Only trouble was I misheard the name as just "Roostershire" so, without any proper badging to go on, I had some difficulty identifying the beer subsequently. A little surprised to see some relatively low scores here. Tasty juicy fruit - didn’t seem particularly artificial / syrupy to me. Plus a tart, modestly sour bite. Not the sourest thing I’ve ever tasted but enough to provide a decent counterpoint. I liked this a lot.

Growler… Pours clear and dirty orange with a small, creamy, white head. Spice-rack coriander or clove and a mild cherry note in the aroma. Medium-bodied and watery with very little carbonation. The flavor is quite sour with a splash of lemon juice and a lesser spice component. Finishes tart and a touch stale.

Draft served in a tulip at Teller’s. Pours a bright, clear ruby-red color with a finger-thick foamy white head. Aroma of raspberries, balsamic vinegar, vanilla, oak, bretty funk, and old lemon juice. Flavor of raspberries, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, cherry juice, lactic acid, and very dry wood. Light-bodied, with a tart, dry mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I very much liked the nose to this one, but the flavor wiped out a little, especially late. Dried up too quickly into nothing instead of lingering on the fresh, sweet, and tart raspberries that show up initially.

Wow this one was interesting. I got lots of sour cherries, raspberries, vinegar, oak and yeast in the nose. Flavor is quite floral and juicy. Tart but not sour. Fun beer.
