COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
S’muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients and good ol’ fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time and enjoy its rich, malty, and deceptively smooth flavor.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of some generous trader. Thanks! Pours a hazy, dark rust orange appearance wit ha nice, big brown head. Really a rich herbal, noble hoppy, grainy caramel malty, mild white fruit (pear/apple), just a touch bitter aroma. Well carbonated. A bit chewy, molasses, vanilla, rich caramel malty, somewhat spicy, a touch nutty, herbal, grassy hoppy flavor with a light note of chocolate. Quite smooth. This is one of the better American-made doppelbocks that I’ve had in a while.

on tap at prohibition pig, waterbury. almost clear medium dark brown with a decent light beige head, some retention, nice lacing. nose of caramel and lightly roasted malts, molasses, raisins, and grassy hops. boozy. average carbonation, medium to full body, some sweetness, nice grassy-earthy finish. smooth and nice. wasn’t wowed though.

Amber colored with a modest head. There isn’t a lot going on with the aroma, just a lightly malty, slightly sweet quality that’s something like a lighter barley wine. The taste is malty and a little sweet, but not overly so. The finish is crisp with a little bit of tingle.

I really don’t get a lot of smell off this one. It’s got a nice feel on the palate and not much on the aftertaste. Almost a little sweet, which is interesting...

My kind of beer all the way. Cannot think of any significant improvements that could be made to it. The bottle Im drinking from was the last one left on the shelf when I picked it up yesterday : )

A - Pours a fairly clear amber-brown with a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of rich caramel malts, brown sugar, dark fruits, vanilla, molasses, some bready malts, and some booze. T - Starts off with a mix of rich caramelized malts and some raisin and other sweet dark fruits. Through the middle, brown sugar and molasses come through with some vanilla and bready malts. The finish is a mix of sweet caramelized malts, dark fruits, bready malts, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and a bit thick with a sweet and warming finish. D - Very drinkable. Nicely balanced doppelbock with a good strong and complex malt profile.

Bomber poured into glass. Doppelbocks are just too much for me, this one especially. Too sweet and heavy on the malt. Almost impossible for me to drink more then a glass.

22oz bottle, 2010 vintage, shared with Robby. Hazy red / brown color. Thin khaki head. Light, crisp carbonation. Dry finish. Bit of loose lace. Big chunks of yeast on the bottom. Very smooth, rich and robust malts. Aromas of dark fruit, toasty malt. Earthy hops. Light bitter and sweet taste. Nice, rich longer aftertaste. Solid, rich and smooth doppelbock.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2010 release. Pours hazy reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing on the glass, with a good amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big raisin, prune, biscuit, toast, molasses, toffee, caramel, nuttiness, earth, light roasted malt, and herbal. Very nice and well balanced doppelbock aromas with good complexity. Taste of big raisin, molasses, prune, toffee, biscuit, toast, nuttiness, earth, light roasted malt, and herbal spiciness. Light spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruit, molasses, toffee, toast, caramel, biscuit, nuttiness, roasted malt, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor complexity and balance. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a moderate warming after the finish. This was very easy to sip on when I opened it, and it gained a bit more heat as it warmed up. Overall this is a damn nice doppelbock. Nice flavor balance and complexity; and pretty smooth to sip on. Got a little bit boozy as it warmed up, but was still a highly enjoyable brew.

[22fl oz bottle] Dark brown beer with a cream-coloured head. Smooth, sweet chocolate and alcohol on the nose. Less booze on the flavour, it hides the alcohol very well on the flavour. Probably because it’s so sweet – essentially it tastes something like a hot chocolate (albeit a cold, hot chocolate). Other, nutty, flavours arrive as the aftertaste comes in. Some great balance in there [15052012]
