BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Apr 30, 2006 This was sort of bland. Aroma was very faint, smelled of wheat and hops. Flavor was mild, slightly sweet, and a little bitter, ABV was noticeable. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Apr 23, 2006 Pours a deep amber-brown color with large tan head. Very malty aroma of caramel, molasses, and honey with a banana-like overtone. Bready flavor with heavy accents of honey and molasses. A little bit of nutty bite compliments the slight taste of banana. Very traditional tasting dopplebock and very satisfying as well. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 16, 2006 Bottled. Poured brown, with a medium brown head and nice lacing. The aroma is all malt and alcohol, with some fruit notes. The flavor is big and malty, with caramel notes to it, and a nice sweetness in the finish. Highly recommended. ElPresidente1984 (173), Maine, USA Apr 7, 2006 bottle from Downeast Bev. Co. pours a brown copper color. with a lively head that dissapates quickly. aroma is pleasent but not strong enough for me. i had to practicly stick my nose in the beer to get anything. aroma/ taste are sweet and spicy, with some very nice caramel malts spicy in the finnish, slightly sour to. this gets better as it warms. not my style but a very nice beer none the less.
Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Apr 3, 2006 Bottle: Poured a clear nut-brown dopplebock with a huge foamy head with excellent retention. Huge aroma of freshly baked banana bread is quite just unbelievable. The freshly baked banana bread with a good slightly sweet malt backbone also dominates taste. Alcohol is well hidden and body is just above average with some medium carbonation. Definitely one of the best dopplebock I ever had. dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Apr 1, 2006 Immediately after pouring, a powerful vanilla, malty smell was released, yet almost immediately afterwards, it faded into an alcoholic tinge with mild notes of smokey wood. The color of the beer is beautiful. Dark brown, looks like a dark cherry wood. Head came thick and high, slightly more yellow than offwhite. Taste is very complex. Flavors of vanilla, maple syrup, caramel, and roasty, delicious malt. Although most here seem to think alcohol is light, i find it to be a very noticeable flavor element. Lacing is sort of ugly and all over the place, thick. Finish is heavenly with a syrupy moutfeel and a long, dry caramel flavor coming through. Overall I really enjoyed this 22oz bottle. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open from here on out. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2006 22oz bottle via trade with goldtwins and someone else as well - Thanks Larry! - Pours ruby brown with a short offwhite head. Aromas of sweet malts, caramel, vanilla, raisins, and even a bit of brown sugar. Flavor is very much inline with the aroma. Big caramel malts, a touch of vanilla, raisins, roasted nuts, some toffee all intertwined wonderfully. Palate is medium bodied without much carbonation but a nice creamy mouthfeel. Good stuff! bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Mar 21, 2006 "Not sure what style this belongs in. Pour was a light copper color with almost 0 head and 0 lacing. Aroma was of raisins and other dark fruits. Flavor was off WAY off grass in there????? caramel malts and fruit. "
