Commercial Description:
S'muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients and good ol' fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time and enjoy its rich, malty, and deceptively smooth flavor.

Dark, ruby body with small off-white head. The aroma is loaded with caramel and toffee. The flavor is toffee, cherries, caramel, a touch of piney, nutty bitterness at the end. The mouthfeel is smooth with soft carbonation and a chewy texture.

Thanks for Blake for the sample. Nice slight malty aroma. Nice deep brown color, with little head. Pretty good flavor, it was strong and malty. Decent body and carbonation. Overall, this was OK, but nothing special to me.

Lightish brown pour w/ a large frothy off white head w/ some soapy lacing. aroma is sweet some light fruit, strawberries and maybe a fig, and a light alcohol and grain. palate is lightly creamy and well coated. flavor is sweet full carmel and a light fruity hop with some toasted grains. Not much to it, not all that good.

2005 bottle. The beer pours to a glowing deep orangish amber body. Light beige head. The aroma is light. Syrup, light nuttiness, lightly alcoholic. The flavor is strawberry seeds, roasty syrup, nuttiness. The palate is very warming, medium bodied, smooth and creamy. I don’t understand how this rates so highly, however.

Good deep gold appearance with a light head. Cleam aroma, fruits with maybe some strawberries. Nice fruity start in taste, some cherry, clean ending.

Thanks to <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Shipments-Profile.asp?FromID=6181>Dorwart for this trade last year. Finally opened to share at my club’s Bock tasting. So this is well over a year old. It hit us all with a big alcohol nose. Pours a nice head of foam even into plastic cups for sampling. Has some of the character of a Belgian dark beer, with some candi sugar sweetness. But very smooth, like "Cream of Malt." A great break from the Hubers and Leinies we had before cracking this one!

2005 Bomber. I was starting to get a little down on Smutty. They’ve been disappointing lately. This one is different. This is a damn good doppel. Pours beautifully. Great head atop a dark brown body. It has a very ... um ... doppel type aroma to it ... roasted malts, buttery, nutty, a little syrupy (maple) and even a little bit of piney hops which adds a nice dimension. Very roasty and buttery in the mouth, like any good doppel should be. Despite the high ABV, you don’t really taste it, it’s nicely masked. Starts off bitter and roasty. Roasted malts, earthy, nutty and piney hops. It finishes pretty smooth, with maple syrup and butter. Somewhere in the middle it’s pretty sweet. Very good doppel, and it’s reaffirmed my faith in a good brewer.
