Commercial Description:
S'muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients and good ol' fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time and enjoy its rich, malty, and deceptively smooth flavor.

1.14.06 Doppelbock. A big brutish beer. A bestial bock. Strong, dark, and to the point. No messing around here. This brew gets in your face with heavy dark malt and some serious alcohol. This is for serious cowboys who aren’t afraid to play with lit fires.

Very smooth and thick, good for sipping on cold and snowy New England evenings. A word to the wary, however: this brew is not for the faint of heart, as the name clearly indicates. As always, the artwork on Smuttynose’s labels for their big beer series is top notch (normally, I wouldn’t even mention this, but it’s just that good).

seems a bit too bitter for the style, though the malt profile certainly dominates. amber color with not much foam, the aroma is mild and malty. deceptively sooth and drinkable thanks to the bock yeast, this bottle is well balanced. while not on the level of celebrator, it is pretty decent.

overall not bad for the style, but just cant live up to my high ’celebartoresque’ expectations of what a doppel bock should taste like. much more hoppy, but still has the malty overtones of a good doppelganger. good, but not impressive. i say this a lot.

Wow! Pours chocolate brown with a quick to diminish head. Aroma is carmel/toffee, with faint alcohol notes. Flavor is of chocolate and toffee, with a great warming mouthfeel Well put together beer!

Alcohol is present in this beer, not as overwhelming as in their Big A, but Smuttynose is NOT afraid to make alcohol part of the taste (take note, Stone and DFH!), and therefore you do not have an overwhelming hop or malt wave to wash away any intracasy in taste. Excellent.

Dark, strong and malty. Seemed little out of balance with noticeable alcohol burn. Otherwise, full, deep and satisfying.

Pours with a tiny white head that vanishes leaving behind a dark golden brown body. Sweetish aroma with the alcohol being prominant. Lively body with a malty taste.
