notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA May 19, 2005 Deep amber with impressive off-white lacework - rich, complex aroma of chocolate, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar, some spices, alcohol in the background - the flavor has some of the largest caramel presence I’ve tasted in a beer - cinnamon and sugar, some earthy, belgian-like qualities - a hint of nutmeg and chocolate near the back - very nice. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA May 12, 2005 Pours brown like maple syrup with a thick brownish head. Aroma has caramel malts, raisin, apple, brown sugar and toffee. Taste has is alcoholic for a Dopplebock yet quite effective. It is certainly a good imitation of a Doppelbock. It is Americanized because of the hops especially. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2005 Pours hazy dark brown with medium, light tan head. Aroma of bready malt, dark fruit, cognac, cabernet. Tastes caramel malty, with big dark fruit presence and a dense, rich, complex finish that lacks balance to an extent. Not in my elite echelon of doppelbocks, bit this one holds its own. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 9, 2005 Bomber bottle from Mike: Ruby highlight deep amber hue with a nice frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of rich caramelized and burnt malts, apple, fig, brown sugar, earthy esters, and a hint of phenolic activity. The taste starts sweet, sugary, and a bit more fruity than I expected. I get some spicy bitterness and sublime vinous notes as well. The feel is smooth and lush, not heavy but not thin either. The alcohol is noticeable and creates a warming upon drinking. Despite some flaws, this beers overall taste makes up for them. This is one dopple you know is a big one. Enjoy. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden May 4, 2005 Draught at Blind Tiger Alehouse, New York.
Dark amber. Sweet malt nose, with notes of raisins. Flavour is big, sweet malty. ABV is clearly evident. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Apr 30, 2005 04.30.05 Bomber from Big Beer series. Dark amber, maple syrupy brown brew with only a trace of head that lasts. Rich malt aromas, sweet, earthy, box o’raisins. My first impression is that the body is perfect, not too thick or cloying, light eff still present; but as the bottle is drained, I find the beer tends toward medium-thin, maybe to thin especially at the finish where I’d like it to be a bit sticky. Peppery spice middle to back and lingering. Nasal alcohol hit after the swallow is a bit overbearing. This would do well with a year in the cellar. Appearance: Slightly murky, brown brew with mid large creamy, tanned top. Good strong appearance. Nose: Rich , sweet with brown malts . Hint of chocolate, caramel, little of plums and hops. 8- Flavor/Palate : Full bodied, rich , clean with warming effect. Balancing bitterness is found. Neat solid example for cold late nights. Traditional, clear cut sample with roughneck like soul.
Jan Primus (160), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Apr 18, 2005 Reddish brown colour, minimal head. I had no probs with the alcohol here, the taste was of sweet malts and fruits. Not bad at all.
