VTHopHead (895), Barre, Vermont, USA Feb 1, 2009 Bomber - Poured a very dark brown in color with a foamy tan head that hung around and provided some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is very malty and sweet with hints of some hops, dark fruit and plenty of caramel/toffee. Flavor is plenty sweet with some alcohol present. Dark fruit (raisins, dates, prunes), hint of vanilla and slightly bitter as it finishes. Too much alcohol in the profile... not too much alcohol (I like), but not well hidden. A good effort... Goodgrief (1147), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 23, 2009 Dark pour, nice two finger head and lacing that left its presence in the mug. Overly sweet, bordering on sickly. Some nice ashy burnt notes which helped this out. My Salt & Vinegar chips helped the sweetness tone down. It was a mistake to drink this whole bomber myself. I could have appreciated this more in a smaller dose. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2009 reddish brown color, nice foam. nose is nutty, some vanilla, a little roasted malt and alcohol, flavor is same except for a little fruityness nice beer. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bomber. Murky mahogany/brown pour with a lovely tall, lasting tan head, rich and creamy, rocky and lacing. Molasses and toffee malt, faint brown sugar. Taste is much the same, but with a ton of alcohol showing - too much, really. A little extra heft. Dark earthy tones with faint spice. Good, but the constant straining for "big beer" status really hurts a lot. jmm635 (250), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 1, 2009 Pours light brown with a fluffy white head. Malts dominate the aroma, with whiffs of caramel, raisins, and alcohol. Flavor is similar but has a tad too much alcohol. Palate is a little fizzy and lively at first, but becomes very smooth once this beer warms. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Dec 14, 2008 Bomber shared by theisti at a Chiefs tailgate. Pours a hazy caramel brown with a creamy beige head and chunky sediment. The nose is of sweet caramel and toffee with an overriding, solid, round maltiness. On the light side of medium-bodied and creamy with a lightly tinny and tight finish. The flavor follows the nose with solid notes of caramel and toffee. This is a very nice doppelbock. Thanks again for sharing it with us, Tim. glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread and nutty, light perfume for the hops, light to moderate dough and earth for the yeast, with toffee, brown sugar, dried cherry, spice and bourbon in the background. Head is large, creamy, off-white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy and chewy almost syrupy and has a lively carbonation. It finishes dry and a little astringent. A great balance in flavors and a rich texture makes this an exceptional Doppelbock. tgncc (798), Bellmore, New York, USA Nov 27, 2008 The aroma is a pleasing mix of malts, toasted grains, and dark fruits, maybe some molasses. The appearance is true to the style, an attractive dark red/purple/brown, with a steady tan head. The flavor is, like many dopplebocks, a nice sweet, fruity flavor, malts, bready. The mouthfeel is appropriately thick for the style, and the finish has a mild bittering from hops. Well crafted beer overall. Nice representation of the style.
