S’muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients and good ol’ fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time and enjoy its rich, malty, and deceptively smooth flavor.

22 oz bottle, Whole Foods Columbus. Hazy, deep, red-brown; 2-finger beige head disappears completely. Aroma is deep and heavy; sweet, malty, apple, raisin, toffee, bubble gum, yeast. Flavor rich, sweet, chewy, malty, caramel, vanilla, nutty, grass, a little spicy, and just barely some alcohol warmth in the exhale. Medium-thick body with more-than-average carbonation; medium coarseness in the bubbles but this really froths up in the mouth; slick, almost oily; barely sticky. There is virtually no alcohol presence here; well done for a nearly 10% beer. This one came out of nowhere; -nice- beer, Smuttynose.

"kinda of a high abv for a traditional doppelbock, but it totally works. Another standout from a solid brewer. loved the light, esrthy hops and the layers of malt in the nose and flavor. VERY drinkable for a strong brew. Thanks heybeerman!"

Pours a beautiful reddish amber with a creamy tan head that mostly lasts. Nose is sweet malt and caramel. Very creamy with a rich soft velvety texture. Taste is bold and full of sweet malt, caramel, maple syrup with just a touch of hops to prevent cloying. An excellent dopplebock that pairs well with smoked cheese or brats off the grill.

Vielen Dank an Micha!

22 oz bomber for 7 bucks. Pours clear dark brownish red with an off-white head. Strong aroma of caramel with fruits underneath. Taste is a lot of caramel and quite sweet. The alcohol is masked pretty well. I really can’t taste any. Body is medium, average carbonation. I expected a bit thicker beer though. All in all it’s pretty good. Not very complex but decent and strong.

Bottle. Smuttonator pours with a ruby red/amber color with a medum sized light tan head. Aroma is sweet, almost sickly sweet with plenty of dried fruits (grapes, plumbs) with a boatload of caramel notes. Flavor is a malt bomb, with a nice undercurrent of dark fruits. Surprisingly, the alcohol is pretty well masked, but with all the residual sugars in this one, it really is noticeable if you’re drinking the entire bottle. Share this with friends.

22oz bomber: This one pours a fairly clear, dark amber/mahogany color. There was about a finger of a khaki colored head on it that didn’t linger long but left some lacing. This one has a nice nose. Lots of malts, yet there isn’t much sweetness coming through. Caramel, dark fruits are the main components. Maybe some toffee also. The taste is excellent. A hint of sweetness, tons of malts. Faint roasted malts. Smooth. Overall an excellent doppelbock.

Man this is a delicious beer. This one pours a lovely reddish brown, just a touch dark for the style, with an inch of nice tan head. Aroma is sweet malty goodness. Candy, caramel, and just a little bit of toast. The taste follows right behind the nose. She is bready and a little sweet but not at all cloying. Nice big lager yeast fruit balanced by the lightest of hop presence. This big malty girl is beautifully balanced even if she is big for the style. And no part of that nearly 10% is noticed (until you finish the bomber that is!).

2011 bottle into bockfest mug..ruby amber like color..decent sized head light brownish hue..quite lively carbonation..sweet malt dominates the aroma..followed closely by molasses..toffee..cookie..bit of honey..texture is quite slick..finishes smooth with moderate sweetness and the abv is held in check..quite enjoyable like other smutty big bottles..has some punch with a lingering warmth..
