deftim13 (103), California, USA Mar 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice dark amber/brown color with small head that is gone within a few seconds. Nose is caramel, sweet candy sugar and faint fruity smell and light nutty aroma. Taste is same. Alcohol is present but plays well with the flavors. mouthfeel is smooth. not a big fan of this style but this was enjoyable.
Arayaga2 (772), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2008 Opaque brown with a thin brown crest of head. Aroma is sweet and raisiny with port like notes... rather barleywine. Taste is sweet pumpernickel and tangy raisin. Very rich and substantial with mildly tannic oaky aftertaste. $6/22oz michael-pollack (1489), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malts, caramel, rye, beans, and sweet malts. Poured cherry-wood brown with a hint of ruby in color and a medium-sized, dense head that lasted throughout. Sparkling. Very hazy. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malts, caramel, light toasting, resin, tar, raisins, hops. Medium to full body. Viscous texture. Average carbonation. Smooth, malt, raisin and resin finish. swoopjones (1179), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 7, 2008 On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Pours a deep chestnut brown color. Roasted & sweet malt aroma. Notes of chocolate. Sweet tasting, boozy, brandy. Fuller bodied. Rich. One big beer fredandboboflo (635), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of soda and honey, yuck. Thankfully flavor wasn’t quite as soda-laden, with some cookie dough malt jumping in, but still extremely sweet. Mouthfeel of carbonated syrup. Not as disgusting as the aroma led me to believe, but no good either. LilBeerDoctor (643), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of sweet malt and soda. Flavor of raisin bread, yeasty pizza dough, spices, and soda. Reminds me of expired Corsendonk Christmas Ale, hehe. A little too sweet with a weak palate. Probably most similar (in terms of doppelbocks) to Spaten Optimator.
