2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
this beer was okay. Certainly not Smuttynoses best offering by far. But still worth a taste.
Refreshing and light.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nose is very yeasty, maybe a bit of wheat, lemon, pepper. Appearance is a bit cloudy, golden, some head, some lacing. Surprising body and hops in the palate, somewhat syrupy feel. I liked it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz Pours orangey with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is quite funky and hard to place. Taste is funky, hoppy and overall pour on the back end. I want to like this, there is something here that feels right and a lot that doesnít.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
POurs hazy deep gold with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is rock sugar, funky hopcitrus. Tastes yeasty, funky, very citric and hoppy, with a lack of palate complexity. Perhaps the worst beer Iíve had from these otherwise great brewers.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I am currently sitting in my backyard, enjoying a glass of this beer, courtesy of a growler fill from Big Z beverage - I can think of no better way to enjoy this cloudy orange ale - beers like this get no love on this site, and itís a damned shame - earthy, musty, bready aroma, with notes of tangy wheat, semi-sweet citrus fruits, and peppery character - soft carbonation, medium body - tangy up front, with orange peel, lemon rind, wheat and other grains - very earthy and rustic - some flinty/chalky dryness through the middle, followed by some warming spiciness and peppery character - lingering yeastiness - refreshing yet complex - not sure what the bottled version is like, but I am really digging this draft sample.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample from a bottle in the VIP tent at WBF Raleigh on 5/2/09. Hazy amber pour. Nose is malty, lightly spiced and sweet. Taste is spicy and fruity with sweet malts, and light yeast. Body is light medium. Carbonation is soft. Ends with more spice, dried fruit, light yeast and sweet malts. Surprised itís not getting better ratings as I thought it was pretty good.

1.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Light off-white head that leaves no lace The color is yellow-orange and very cloudy. Thereís even some yeast clumps floating. I kinda like that.
The smell is not what I was expecting. My first impression is dirty laundry, closer to an older wet diaper. No Belgian yeast, no spice. The malt is barely noteworthy. No hop.
The flavor is a huge improvement (it had to be). I do detect some orange rind and clove. Mostly malty on the tongue. The finish is lightly sour and short lived. The body is respectable.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Slightly sweet, fruity aroma, fairly mild. Cloudy orange body, small head. Flavor is mild, fruity, lightly sweet. Finish is abrupt and attenuated. Overall, this one is below Smuttynoseís usual high standards.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2009-05-02. Golden orange-amber body with a modest off-white head. Flavour is quite grainy, a bit roughly so at first. Sweet malt with dry toasty malt and fruity overtones. Aroma is mild, dry malts with sweeter underlying malt notes. Average to medium bodied palate. Okay, but does not quite come together for me. On tap at Coles, Buffalo

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2010 Hazy peach pour with one finger white head that dissipates into a veneer. Aroma is a sharp citrus. Grapefruit, lemon, bread, straw, grass, and coriander come through as well. Flavor is sweet, smooth, mellow citrus with a grassy hop backbone. Finishes slightly bitter and very crisp. Palate is quite full for the style- carbonation is medium so mouthfeel is very pillowy while maintaining smooth crispness. Finishes crisp and dry. Very surprised at the quality of this one.
