Commercial Description:
The Gnome was brewed in homage to the recent arrivals of hoppy Belgian beers that we’re starting to see here in the US. I was really shooting for that beautifully soft hopping that’s found in the Houblon Chouffe, however, the Gnome has developed its own unique characteristics and flavor profile. The base beer is a Belgian triple brewed with White Labs Chimay-style yeast. I really liked the fruit character from this yeast, but man, that stuff still hasn’t dropped bright. The hopping was done with Vanguard, Sterling and East Kent Goldings. I think this beer has a lot of potential, though I’d like another shot at brewing the style. There is a very limited amount of this beer, so if you happen to see it on tap, go ahead and share a pint with your gnomies!

on tap @Blind Tiger-pours a thin retaining off white head and cloudy yellow/orange color. Aroma is resin/pink grapefruit zest hops, secondary somewhat sweet medium malt. Taste is sweet (simcoe/Amarillo & saaz) resin/pink grapefruit zest hops, secondary somewhat sweet medium malt, some coriander/herbal/pepper, yeast, alcohol. Seems like a Belgian SA. Nice effort for a Belgian style by an American brewer.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Very cloudy yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma is quite sweet and spicy with loads of fruity/yeasty character. Banana, lemon citrus and wheaty aroma along with a bit of orange/grapefruit hop aroma as well. The flavour is decent, if a little bit too sweet. Light wheat malt with a touch of butterscotch and caramel. Banana, light coriander and a touch of vanilla all come through. A sweetish beer, but there is some peppery ethanol that serves to help balance the beer off. As it warms, it tends toward cloyingness. It’s good, but it lacks subtlety.

(Draught) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a thick off-white head. Aroma of yellow plums, apricots, peaches, banana, lemon, and wheat. Flavor of apricot, honey, light clove, biscuits, coriander, and other herbs.
