COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Take a break from the Sturm und Drang of modern life, with this elegant, refreshing pilsner. Our brewers created Vunderbar! with both feet grounded in tradition, focusing on authentic German pilsner malt and spicy Czech Saaz hops. The result just might get you to shimmy into your favorite lederhosen, bust into a quick schuhplattler and loudly proclaim, “Das ist Vunderbar!” Formerly known as Shortbatch #11

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. 5.2% indicated on bottle. A: Pours a lightly hazy straw color and a two fingers high white head. Its retention is good for the style, settling at one finger, and leaves spotty lacing on the glass. Even better is its creamy, frothy texture. S: There are some nice zesty, grassy, even mildly sulphury hops here. Behind that lies a bit of cracker-like malt and even some sweetness. Typical but likable. T: At first, I pick up touches of mild grassy hops, and later on the finish. Sandwiched between the two is a vaguely sweet malt backbone and even some citrusy qualities. Though the flavor profile doesn’t stick out, it’s certainly a well made and enjoyable version of the style. I could use even more hoppiness, though. M: The dry finish helps balance its sweetness some, and is generally very easy to drink. I’d also call the carbonation level ’spot on’. O: A solid pilsner. Hops could be more pronounced, but otherwise there’s little to complain about other than the lack of uniqueness - which isn’t a big deal, either.

Can. Hazy light gold with a tall white head. The aroma is lightly sweet and spicy. The flavor balances light bitterness with just enough sweetness. Lightly bitter finish.

Sampler at Hayseed. Pours golden yellow with a thin white head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Solid grassy notes on the nose. Kind of grassy and lemony on the tongue. Finished clean. Nice example of style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Misconduct. Hazy pale gold pour with a runny white head. Light toasted blonde malts with some mild spicy citrus hops. Bread dough. Biscuits with lemon marmalade. Clementines. Dill. Thyme. Garlic shoots. Green grapes. Not wonderful but worthwhile.

Really a pilsner gusher, not happy! Lightly hazed straw color with a tall (duh) off-white head. Classic noble hops aroma and just a hint of lightly toasted malt. Light malt, bit of dough, slight salt and bit of dry grass. Has more a kolsch or kellerbier quality. 4/14

Not a fan of lagers and pilsners, generally, but this was a pleasant surprise. Hazy amber pour with a big, white head. Nose is grain and mild malt. Taste is well balanced and fresh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at Silvertone, 1/2/16.
Clear, with a bit of a chill haze, initially. Soft, muted yellow-golden with a moderate amount of well-retained white head.
Heavily, heavily floral nose is quite enjoyably fragrant and allows just a pinch of lime-tangerine, as well. Very sparsely malted, as it should be, adding just slight cracker-like grains and maybe a touch of heathery-honey character. Clean and hoppy, though it doesn’t smell like any saaz I’ve ever smelled. Seems like something more going on here.
In the flavor, it’s heavily given over to the floral hop notes. Very light lavender suggestions, with a touch of mint and lemon. Sort of like the headiness of Prima Pils before that one got all resinous and aggressive. Very nicely attenuated, though still a fair amount of body to it. Ample carbonation. Maybe a bit heavy on the dry, floral character, but still quite drinkable and clean.
