COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An authentic bavarian-style hefeweizen. Light and refreshing, with the hazy appearance and tangy flavor characteristic of its style.

Bottled May 2005 Pours a lightly hazy yellow gold with a 1/2 inch creamy eggshell white head. Some rings of lace. Sweet wheat malt, spicy, bubblegum and lemon aromas. Taste is spicy and bitter. Lemony. That’s it. Bitter finish, crisp mouth. Only OK. Another relatively dull American wheat.

Bottle. I don’t get it. I thought this was pretty good. Good yeasty aroma with banana, cloves and citrus, and it wasn’t too light, either. Very smooth mouthfeel and very drinkable. More banana, cloves and citrus in the flavor, along with a malty sweetness. I thought it was rather enjoyable, but I guess I’m in the minority on this one.

Clear golden color that frothed up nicely. Strong wheat and hop aroma with fruity tones.Very carbonated wheat and citrus flavor. Light to drink but with a bitter coconut finish. IMO Smuttynose often gets too much fruit flavor in their beers.

Pours a pale gole color with a little bit of haze. Aroma is bananas and bread with a little clove. Flavors are yeasty with a bit of vanilla and malt. Very easy to drink.

A bit much cloves and spice on the nose. Very pale yellow, lightish body. Cloves overpower whatever hops and grain might be present. Crisp, dry finish, and the cloves don’t linger in the aftertaste, but I’d hoped for a bit more wheat body and orange/citrus flavor.

Hazy golden. Light clovey aroma, some sticky wheat as well. Low to medium ester aroma. Flavor is much more estery than the aroma. Moderate bitterness. Low to medium body, rather dryish. Somehow less than the sum of its parts.

A suprising very pale yellow beer with a short white head and lace. Quite nice aromas of lemon grass, clove and fruit. Taste was wheat and only slightly sweet, that ended with a smooth hop bitterness. It unfortunately contained a strong taste of cloves that just didn’t go well with this style. One of the only dissapointments I’ve had from this otherwise great brewer.
